After trekking through many miles of the backwoods of China, Genma Saotome and his son, and heir to his school, had finally come to the infamous training ground of Jusenkyo. It was just another stop on the trip that Genma had dragged his son on when he was just a toddler. Each location and training method had been weirder and more dangerous than the last, but this spot looked like a normal spot to the young man.
“Why are we here, old man?” Ranma remarked smarmily, “This just looks like any old training ground to me. Why did you drag me all the way to China to come here?” The young man’s father wasn’t going to put up with his smartass mouth.
“Shut up, boy! I know what I’m doing! This is supposed to be a legendary training ground where only the most gifted and fearless of martial artists train. It has that reputation for a reason, and I mean to prove it to you.”
Before they could leap onto the bamboo poles that stuck out of the pools of water like spears, a chubby Chinese man in a tour guide uniform called to them.
“Sirs must not do that!” he cried in broken Japanese, having heard them speak from a distance, “Is very dangerous to be near springs!”
The two either didn’t hear the guide’s warning, or they didn’t care. They each jumped into the training area, and took up fighting stances.
“Are you ready to learn why you should speak to me with respect boy?” The bespectacled man asked his son.
“I’m ready to kick your ass, Pop!” the teenage boy barked back before his father launched himself at him.
“Sirs! Please listen, and come down!” the guide pleaded desperately. “This place very cursed, and very bad if you fall in pools!”
“Whatever! I ain’t afraid of some stupid legend. How ‘bout you, Pops? Want to call it quits now, before I can deck you in the face?”
Genma only grunted as he launched yet another attack at his son. They continued to fight until Ranma managed to get him off balance and sent him into the water below. When he emerged again, it was not as himself. Genma Saotome was now a giant panda.
“WHAT THE HELL?!” the son screamed as his transformed father began to attack him once more.
“Poor sir fall into spring of drowned panda. Very tragic tale of panda who drowned in pool very long ago.”
Ranma tried to stall his father’s attack, wanting to get away from the water before the same thing happened to him.
“Stop attacking me, you idiot! Haven’t you noticed what happened to you?!”
In that moment, Genma found an opening and sent his son flying into a pool with a kick. There was a splash of water, and then nothing.
“Oh no, oh no, oh no! Sir has made big, BIG mistake! Young sir fall into spring of drowned three inch tall man!”
“Growf?” Genma asked, and then he finally noticed his current form.
“Is spring where man shrunk by witch drowned years ago. Now whoever fall in shrink to three inch version of themselves.”
Sure enough, on closer inspection, a tiny Ranma Saotome could be seen pulling himself out of a pool of water that looked more like a lake compared to him.
