On command a set of saddle bags set down in front of Twilight Sparkle.
"Three water canteens," Twilight said
As before, three canteens full of water floated down and found a spot in the saddle bags. A little mark on Twilight's checklist and she moved on to the next item
"Compass. Map. Flint. Tinder box." Twilight checked off each provision, one item after another found a place in her saddle bags
Spike sat nearby, watching the 5th repacking, mouthing the words written on the checklist he had gone over 5 times. Twilight was about to embark on a grand expedition to catalog and even bring back specimen of never before seen creatures in the dreaded Everfree forest. Spike, of course, wanted to join, a young boy going on an adventure with his best friend? It was a dream straight out of fiction.
Unfortunately Twilight had other plans...Spike had to stay and act on Twilight's behalf should something go wrong over the week that she planned to be gone.
It was little surprise to find that Spike was a touch sour...
"Alright! I am all packed and ready to go!”
Twilight magically levitated the saddle bags and put them on her back, each sack bulging with supplies.
“Awesome. I guess now you’ll be off to the Everfree, seeing new and never before seen creatures....alone…” Spike responded, pursing his lips.
“Oh Spike.” Twilight started “I’m sorry, but you need to stick around Ponyville. With me off and away, the ponies will need someone to act in my place until I come back.”
“Sounds like I'm being left with work that's above my pay grade,” Spike muttered, crossing his arms.
“Work that requires wisdom, intelligence and a faithful and strong heart,” Twilight said pulling her young assistant into a hug
Spike smiled, her sweet talk always worked.
“Fine...alright...bring me back some jewels to munch on?” Spike said, returning Twilight's hug.
“You got it,”
A knock at the door drew the attention of the two friends.
