Chapter #4Unchanged roommate by: Lilly You turn around to see a young woman sitting up and eyeing you quizically from her bed. She appears still half asleep, rubbing one eye with a balled up hand and squinting at you with the other.
"You tear your PJ's or something?" She asks with a yawn. You unhand your breast and turn away from the mirror with your face scarlet.
"N..no I.... ugh...." you struggle to put words together to explain your predicament. The fact your voice sounds so foreign only adds to your struggles.
"Well you look fine to me." The woman mumbles before cuddling back into her bed. "Snow day today," she says into her pillow " so lemme sleep..." she finishes, already drifting off back to sleep.
You stay frozen, still wildly confused at your current situation. Last night you'd gone to sleep in your own bed like normal, nothing strange, not even any dreams. Yet now here you stand, in a woman's college dorm room in some snowy wasteland. And as strange as that all seems on its own, you are also in the body of a young FEMALE college coed.
You slowly try to gather yourself, looking in the mirror and turning this way and that, using your now manicured hands to comfirm the new dimensions of your strange form.
You're a woman now. But why? For how long? Where are you?
All these questions rattle around inside your head until you're distracted by some loud stomping outside your room.
Your roomate releases a grunt of protest to the now fading noise, and in the silence following you tiptoe to the door, sliding your new feet into a pair of fuzzy slippers and quietly slip outside.
You close the door with a soft click, taking note that you came out of room 221, and begin walking down the empty hallway towards the sound of voices.
It doesn't take long for you to stumble into a large room filled with 20-or-so young women, some sitting some standing, all crowded around looking up at the wall-mounted TV. You eye everyone suspiciously, though they all seem to be dressed in PJ's and in night clothes like yourself. Some of them shoot you a glance as you enter, but they quickly snap their attention back to the broadcast.
You make your way around the room to see the TV screen and a famous male news anchor speaking next to a large graphic that says "REMAIN CALM. WORLDWIDE INCIDENT. YOU ARE NOT ALONE."
"... and for those of you who are not affected, and we're getting reports in that this is a very small percentage of people, we ask that you find your ID, and head down to your local superstore to volunteer in this time of crisis. It may not be evident to us few unaffected by this phenomenon, but the majority of mankind is at this moment, displaced." At this some of the girls make affermative sounds, a couple seem to be sobbing, and other whisper to each other with worry.
"You may find that your family and friends are claiming to not know you, claiming to be other people. For the moment, we ask all that have been affected to remain indoors until help is sent. The president has declared this a national, and worldwide emergency. Each country's governments are currently constructing a process to get all people matched with an identity, so that we may proceed with hope for orderly resolving this. We also ask that all public servants: police, firefighters, EMT's and Military veterans, if you are able, call the number on the bottom of the screen to be connected to a representative who will assign you a post for the relief efforts." At this last part, one of the girls standing in the back pulled out a cell phone and left the room with it pressed to cheek. "All affected civilians, we ask you to please not jam the lines with calls, we are working to protect and help you all. For now, sit tight, stay safe and fed, rations should be dispersed within 2 days time." After that the man seemed to start his recital again, and you noticed that several women had left the living room and several more had gathered as well. All you could think to do was head back to the room you'd woken up in.
(If you continue this story thread please be considerate and don't have "something else" lead into a single option followed by another "something else." If you want a specific path to write with message me and I'll add up to 3 within the branch "something else") indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
