It was a good thing you checked this pod first, your Aunt Kelly was inside, if you had gone into the other pod first, you might've swapped bodies with her unintentionally. "Oh hi, Luke I guess you found me..." she said a little disappointed. "I guess it means I need to go back to the party now."
"Actually I came to check on my machine, you can stay in the garage if you want but it's dangerous to be in that pod," You said as you grabbed her arm and pulled her out.
You never quite understood your Aunt Kelly, she always seemed so depressed, despite her job, where she looked so perfect. While she didn't know it, you had seen her naked a few times as she did the occasional nude job. People you knew from school had shown you the pictures but you never told them they were of your aunt.
"Dangerous how?" Kelly suddenly perked up and surveyed the machine she was looking at. The central terminal looked similar to a device her brother had made though is you were strapped into chairs and had a metal device placed on your head. "Wait, is this a body swapping machine?" She realized. "So if you go in there," she was pushing you back towards a pod but stopped before pushing you in. "And I go in that one, we come out as each other?" She said with a smile on her face.
"Yes," you gulped. "That is the idea."
"Wow, you're just like your dad!" Kelly exclaimed with excitement. She then noticed a confused look on your face. "Oh, didn't you know, your dad built one of these when we were younger. Those were crazy times, bouncing around from body to body. I even got my friend pregnant using the body of her crush. Your dad spent about a month as me," Kelly informed you. "You know, I think he liked being a girl.." she whispered in your ear. "I wasn't much for cosmetics and such, when your dad was me he put me in the most beautiful dresses and did my hair up so nicely, he's actually the one who got me noticed by the modelling agencies. I'm the one that signed the contract when we finally switched back though, though I didn't know what I was signing."
You couldn't believe what you were hearing, your dad always hated your machines. Though this could explain why. "So what happened to the device?" You asked her out of curiosity.
"Too many of us were using it, our house became an open door policy for anyone to switch. Eventually people started using other people's body's for crimes and like I said, we got people pregnant. There was also that rich guy on TV, Ronald? He was a friend of your dads, he'd tell people about the machine and charge them to swap. Any way things got out of hand, our dad's body got arrested and mum's just disappeared. You know your dad's lesbian friends Arizona and Maria? Those are your grandparents. Anyway after he got his body back and put me back in mine, I think he restored his friend Brian as well, he destroyed the machine and without parents we were sent to live with our uncle. Your dad never invented anything again."
"Wait what about everyone else?" You couldn't believe what she was saying. Though Arizona and Maria did like to spoil you and your siblings and you were told to address them as your aunts.
"Mark didn't know who was who, people had been arrested in other people's bodies and like I said our mum's body had vanished. So he saved who he could and everyone was stuck the way they were. I don't know what happened then as I started working in modelling and never went back to that town."
"So you're saying I should destroy the machine?" You asked your aunt, as you looked over at the device that had taken you a year to build, the main core had cost you an arm and a leg and you went through a lot more than just money to acquire the necessary components.
"Oh no, I would never suggest that, though your dad will probably want to destroy it and keep an eye out for Ronald. My best experiences in life was living it up as other people, you should have the opportunity to do the same, in fact...."
