Remains Human

by: Woogie, Destroyer of Worlds Author IconMail Icon
Jake rolls out of the portal, landing on his butt. Suddenly, tumbling out behind him was Sally, rolling into the wall. "Sally!! You followed me?!"

"When you first said the mirror was a gateway to other realities, I didn't believe you, but when that portal thingy showed up, I knew I'd be in trouble if I let you wander off into some god-knows parallel universe... Speaking of which..." Sally tells you, getting up.

"It looks like my room, but a little taller..." you say. Just then, two people burst into the room.

"Quick, grab the..." screamed a tall girl that looked like your best friend Allison from the hips up, but from the hips down under her short skirt, she looked like a miniature Brachiosaurus, a sort of Brachio-taur.

"You jerks!!" exclaimed the other girl, a spitting image for Sally's friend Jess, but has a Stegosaurus' tail swishing behind her, and was three feet taller than the friend Sally knew. "How dare you trick us like that!!"

"Say what now?" you say.

"I bet all those funky lights from that mirror was just some trick you guys set up in advance to mess with us." the sort of Allison said.

"I'm confused here." Sally asked. "What are we talking about here? we just got here, and we're already talking with weird freaky versions of our friends..."

"Freaky?!" the girl that kinda looks like Jess belts out enraged.

"You're... You're scaring me..." Sally cried, backing up defensively.

Before anything can escalate, though, Allison puts her tail in the way. "Something's not right, Jess. The Sally we know never got that scared when you blew your cool..." Upon hearing that, reason seemed to come back to the stego-girl's face.

"It worked, didn't it?" Jess uttered.

"Then, where's our Jake and Sally?"

You and Sally look at one another in confusion, then simultaneously ask, "Where are we?!"

Over the next few hours, Jess and Allison explain their universe, and you explain yours, and what each of you were doing before using the mirror. "So your species are called 'reprimates?'" you ask.

Allison says, "Yeah... A small meteor hit the Earth 65,000,000 years ago and lowered the Earth's ambient temps. It forced the dinosaurs to evolve, taking forms that were smaller, and allowed the evolution of endothermic metabolisms in our ancestors. Over time, we evolved alongside the ancestors of your human race, but during the last two ice ages we became the more prolific sentient species."

"So humans exist here too?"

"Yeah," Jess says, "In fact, our Jake and Sally were humans as well. The human race lives alongside us reprimates, and recently equal civil rights were given to humans back in the '60's, but we used to not be so nice to them, even enslaving them in the past. Our United States even fought a Civil War over the slavery of humans in the 1860's..."

"So, dinosaurs didn't survive to evolve into reprimates, and become the dominant species on the planet?" Allison wondered.

"Nope. The meteor hit 65,000,000 years ago, but ours was much bigger, killed all your ancestors in our world, nearly took all life with it, but then mammals became dominant and then primates, and now humans."

Sally says, "I don't want to sound rude, but I'm amazed how human-like you look, I mean, for evolving from dinos... Man I sound so shallow..."

Jess growls a little, but then relaxes, saying, "That last part was a little rude, but I'll let it go since you aren't from this universe and didn't know better."

Allison leads everyone over to Jake's computer as explains as she pulls up a webpage showing pics of various reprimates, and a anatomical medical chart, "I believe we gained simialr trait by living in similar conditions alongside humans in primordial times, but as you can see, there are some differences." She points to the screen, at a female. "As Sally noticed, female reprimates look more like humans than reptiles or dinosaurs, often the only differences being that we're about twice as tall as humans, and usually just have a dino tail. Some races have 'taur-like traits, like myself, while the female reprimates that evolved from pterodactyls and pterodons have wings in addition to tails." She then points to a more reptilian being, saying, "...and these are our males. As you can see, our males heavily favor our reptilian and dinosaur lineage, some having snouts, some not, but all having claws, digititrade legs, and scales over their entire body. A recent trend some old people don't get that some of the more effeminate males, or metrosexuals, as we call them, do is to wear wigs. Some believe it's because they get jealous of humans and female reprimates' smooth skin and ability to grow long luscious hair."

Everyone laughed. After talking about this world's Jake & Sally, you realize, outside of living alongside evolved dinos, they weren't too different from you two.

"So, your Jake and Sally invited you guys to watch and see them off, did they?" you said.

"Yeah. They activated that weird mirror with some mantra and then, BAM!! Gone." Jess said. "We looked for your folks, but they had just stepped out for groceries, so we ran back up here, and then ran into you guys."

"Wanna come with us?" you exclaim, slyly. "I figure I should of asked my best friend to come with me, but since I don't know how to get home just yet, why not take my best friend from another universe with me across the multiverse until we find that realm my aunt spoke of?"

"Wha... What...?!" Allison blurted, just in time for you to declare the mantra again.

Just then...
