You were hunting down your prey. Over the years you have reached your full potential. In human form you were eight feet tall and extremely muscular, however you were fast for someone of such size and power. In dragon form you were fully grown. As a dragon you stood over 500 feet and knew how to hunt to the point that no other dragon could stand up to you. The prey you were chasing was a warlord. Upon growing up you offered yourself to clients as a mercenary. You had little care for socializing due to your hatred towards your mother.
Upon growing up you learned that she was queen of the Dark Hunters. It made sense why she tossed you aside. The last thing she wanted was her own child to usurp her reign over the Dark Hunters. As you were chasing the warlord you leap high into the air. You then land in front of his carriage. The horse panic as you unsheathe your sword.
"It's you! You're Havorok Huntfire!" the warlord gasped as he looked into your blood red eyes.
"Is that all you have to say? Pathetic. You'll die like the cowering worm that you are!"
With one quick thrust you pierce the warlord through the heart. As you pull out your sword the warlord falls to the ground. You then proceed to take any valuables he has as a bonus to the payment that your client will give you. You then spot a woman tied up in the back. Your job also required you to rescue this damsel. The damsel was a noblewoman around your age and by the looks of it she must be skilled at fighting. She was also tall for a woman. By your guess she had to be a foot shorter than yourself. You cut her bindings with your sword. She then wakes up. Upon waking her white blond hair briefly covers her emerald eyes. She then notices you looming over her. Unlike other humans she doesn't cower in fear. Once on her feet she continues to look into your eyes.
"If you're ready we have to leave. Your father is paying me to bring you back safely."
The woman nods in understanding. You can tell that she was recovering from the trauma of being kidnapped. You then transform into your dragon form.
"Get on. I have to take this gold and other things to my place. It shouldn't be too far from town."
The woman nods and climbs on your back. You then take off and carry the carriage, horses and all to your estate. For a mercenary the extra wealth you've gathered has allowed you to buy a castle of your own. Once there you are greeted by your servants.
"Greetings master. What would you like us to do?" A maid said as she curtsied before you.
"Put the treasure in the vault and take the horses to the stables. If the horses give you any trouble kill them and put them in my private chamber. I have some work I need to finish. Once I return make preparations for my meal."
"As you wish master." The maid replied.
The servants then do as you commanded. You then transform into your human form.
"We'll walk to town. The last thing I need is for your father's men to attack me."
The woman nods in agreement. You and the noblewoman then walk into town. As you walk you see many people socilize. You sigh knowing that for someone like yourself socializing was not possible. You were too fixated on exacting revenge on your mother to care.
"Excuse me, Lord Huntfire. I just noticed that you seem lonely. Don't you have someone you care about?" the woman spoke up.
You ignore the woman for the time being. You then run your fingers through your short beard.
"I guess that's a no. I'm thankful that you saved me. If you would like maybe we can be friends. As a princess I barely have time for friends. Everyday my father has me studying a book or practicing my swordplay. It also doesn't help that I'm heir to his throne either."
You furrow your brow in response. No one in your life has wanted to be your friend before. You have servants that's for sure, but no one you could call a friend. But you knew that if you did make a friend your diabolical mother would send one of your sisters to kill them.
"Are you going to be silent during the whole way back? I understand that you didn't achieve your title through birth or had any comrades to help you, but please don't shut me out. You may chose to live a lonely life built on your terrible upbringing, but deep inside your intentions are justified. Deep down inside you want to do the best to end your suffering."
"My only obligation is my job. If you would like to chat with me go ahead. Whether I chose to answer is up to me."
"Isn't it part of your job to talk to me? You really don't want the Dark Hunter queen to exploit feelings of friendship for weakness. That's total bull crap! I've heard the stories of her tossing you over a cliff and leaving you for dead. Friendship isn't a weakness. It's strength!"
You grin in amusement. You knew from her thoughts that she was going to say what she said, but you never thought she would be so outspoken. Somehow something was unique about this princess. You couldn't put your finger on it but there's something more to her. Yet Princess Clarina Bruskolov did come from an intriguging bloodline. The knowledge from past Kings tell you that her family has a connection with dragons, but how much wasn't clear yet. After walking for fifteen minutes you arrive at the castle. You then spot the king waiting at the gate.
"Thank you Lord Huntfire for rescuing my daughter. Here's 100,000 gold for your troubles."
You take the bag of gold and tie it to your belt. "Thank you your majesty." You then prepare to leave until the king calls out to you.
"Lord Huntfire, I have another job for you."
"What kind of job is it?"
"This job is more of an expedition. I'm sure you know about the ill-fated Light Knight Dragons of long ago."
"I've heard of them. They're the polar opposite of Dark Hunters who vanished long ago. In the past they were evenly matched. Some rumors say that they went extinct, yet others say that they were cursed to take on human forms until they can access the legendary temple. If said temple is found it is said that a Light Knight Queen will restore the race's ability to shift from human to dragon form." You said as knowledge from one of the previous Kings came to your mind.
"Impressive Lord Huntfire."
"So when do we start this expedition your majesty?"
"We'll set out a few days from now. Like last time I'll pay you after the the job is done."
