Light burned into your red eyes as you woke. The sun had aided in keeping you fed like a normal Dark Hunter for whatever amount of time it was that you were unconscious. Then you remembered what happened and after looking around you started to cry. You looked at your body and saw the scars from where your mother’s fangs had chewed your tiny body in her attempt to kill you. You knew but as a child didn’t understand why your own mother would do something like that. But you had little time to dwell on it as you opened you eyes just in time to see and dodge wolf’s jaws that snapped where you used to be. You bolted behind a tree and looked at the wolf as it readied itself to chase you. You then climbed up the tree with relative ease and too quick for the wolf to catch you.
You roared at the wolf but at your small size it only sounded like a squeak. You soon found that drawing attention to yourself was not a good idea as a hawk was the next to attempt to make you its lunch. You were able to use your tail to slice at it. Your tail, like all Dark Hunters, was usually normal looking but could flatten into an ultra thin but ultra strong serrated blade that had a spade shape to it. The serrated parts worked like scissors but could come together to slice depending on the dragons needs. Your tail sliced off the hawks talon and it screeched but sped away. This time you didn’t hazard a roar as it didn’t work at your current size. It was more of a dinner bell right now than a proper roar. You saw a hole in the tree and made a quick dash for it. You learned from your first two encounters to not take it for granted that you were safe so you propped the hole with your keen senses. After finding nothing dangerous you went in and coiled around so your head was facing out and your tail was protecting you. In the dark of the hole you were near invisible, except of course your blowing red eyes as they quivered at the prospect of the dangerous world around you.
For months you steadily learned the things every predator should know. And at your current size, flying didn’t cause any attention so you developed it was well. Like your other talents like mind reading, fire breath, magic, your healing saliva, and a host of other things the genetic knowledge gave you, it came almost naturally as you needed it. However you still needed to practice. For instance you could hear conversations from the few humans that came by while you hid or when they attacked you but when you tried to talk back they would only hear growling, hissing, and snarls. You quickly became afraid of humans, even if you could turn into one. You didn’t use your human form as it left you to vulnerable at the moment but when you found a cave behind a waterfall that no one knew about and the water washed away your scent so you couldn’t be tracked there, you started training that part to. Not much, just walking, running, using your arms and hands. You even found out how to combine your dragon half with your human half. Like when you got big enough but another wolf found you. A one year old human doesn’t have a lot going for them in defense or offense. So your human fingers grew into claws and a tail and wings grew out of your back. At that point you had wolf for dinner.
But you were lonely and with no one to talk to you just kept on living and growing up, learning what you could while practicing what you thought you might need, talking being one of them in both forms. You thanked the out pouring of knowledge from the past Kings, otherwise your vocabulary would have been limited to what the hunters and knights that attacked you. Those weren’t very nice words. But you were still growing and hoping that one day you would be able to make a friend or at the very least not be alone.
