After of what felt like an eternity of sleep, Gwen finally woke up in the Torchwood Med Bay. She looked around, seeing no one in there with her. When she tried to sit up, she immediately felt dizzy. She felt someone lay her back down in before she collapsed. When her vision came back, she saw Jack and her husband, Rhys.
"What is-" Gwen started to say. Jack stopped her by putting his hand over her mouth.
"You used up a lot of your energy when you decided to be Reyax's surrogate." Jack answered. "It caused you to collapse. We got there as fast as we could and brought you here. Apparently, Reyax forgot to mention that collapsing is the first part after becoming a surrogate."
"Which is funny considering that was a vital piece of information." Rhys said. "I was scared to death about you."
"I'm all right," Gwen said. "What about Reyax? Where is she?"
Jack and Rhys looked at each other before Rhys answered.
"Not long after we got there," he said. "She told us how happy she was that the Zerrinax managed to live on thanks to you. Then, she passed."
"I promised her we would give her a proper Zerrinax burial." Jack said. "We'll have to put her in a coffin, throw it into space, then shoot it with a big laser gun."
Gwen and Rjys looked at him like he was a maniac.
"I used my scanner to look up Zerrinax burial traditions." Jack said. "The whole thing confused me, too. The point is that now, your pregnant, carrying one or more Zerrinax."
"Two things." Rhys said. "One, i missed whatever might be anything that might be different between this and a human pregnancy, so please tell me. And two, explain to me how we're going to cope with this?"
"I scanned her while she was sleeping." Jack said. "Her gestation period is fourteen months, she'll only have morning sickness for the first twelve days, she's carrying four Zerrinax, she'll eat more with every meal, and she has to gain a lot of weight for the Zerrinax to be healthy."
The first, third, and last ones surprised Rhys.
"Okay," He finally said after twenty seconds of silence. "We can probably get through that easily."
"Says you." Gwen said. "I'm the one who will be pregnant for over a year. And i have to get really fat for the babies to be healthy."
"Hey," Jack said. "Don't worry. We'll monitor your entire pregnancy here at the hub. And, you have that five star hotel i promised you."
"What are you talking about?" Rhys asked.
"She told me one reason she would do this is if i promised to send her to a five star hotel near the end of her pregnancy. She also promised me she's gonna make sure i pay for every penny of the undoubtedly enormous amount of food she's going to eat."
"That last part is true." Gwen said.
"Well then, that's one thing we can look forward to." Rhys said.
As Gwen and Rhys were leaving later, Jack warned them one last thing.
"I almost forgot to mention! The phase where she starts to increase in appetite starts really soon after the morning sickness stage."
Rhys looked back at him. "How soon?"
