Chapter #4

This is Why You Should Never Steal

    by: Lelouch Author IconMail Icon
Not paying any mind to what she grabbed, Nami reached for the smallest statue, barely even noticeable it was so small. It had to be less than an inch in height and was clearly worthless to the Navigator's sharp eye. Sure it was hand-carved, but there were no gems, no shine to it. The wood wasn't even all that great and it had the kind of design you could find in any market. A carving of a woman praying, real rare, if the buyer was a complete idiot. She sighed as it became clear she had gone to such lengths for nothing. The events of the entire day seemed to play back to show how this moment came to be.

-----

It was any other day for the Straw Hat pirates on their ship. Luffy was laughing and playing with Chopper and Usopp. Zoro was asleep in his room. Brooke was in his room playing some soft music as Franky worked on whatever invention he was at the time. While Nami sat in a bikini tanning with Robin, also in a bikini, who was entranced in her book. The ship's chef Sanji was busy making all sorts of delicacies in record time to try and woo the two women, but they barely paid him more than a word of thanks with each gift; neither interested in the man, but more than happy to take his gifts. A typical day, then the crew landed on the next island on their charts and the routine continued.

Trouble Island, an island known for (Go figure) causing Trouble. Though despite the name it appeared nice enough. What greeted the Straw Hats was a nice, large, clean white dock full of a number of ships. Each one a pirate vessel. The city that lay beyond a small grass field was full of pirates. Now it made sense where the island got its name. The Straw Hats docked at a free spot on the docks and began to get off the ship. Upon landing Robin quickly explained the basic formation of the island. The city itself was full of pirates and lawlessness, but rumors say that the Marines often operated in secret here. It was a prime information gathering place. In short, both Pirates and Marines were on this island. That was all that concerned the Straw Hats about this place.

Always eager for an adventure, Luffy dragged a few members of the crew to try and find something fun to do. After being forced to swear not to do anything stupid, Luffy led them out onto the island. After donning a short-sleeve dark blue shirt and a pair of light blue short shorts, Nami initially left the ship with them to try and use them for shopping purposes, but a large ship on the other end of the dock caught her eye.

In a pirate town it was surely a pirate ship, but there were no sales to identify it. In fact, other than its sheer size, the ship had no noticeable features at all. It was just a plain old wooden ship, just very large. Nami instantly liked what she was seeing with it. A ship that size had to hold an enormous crew, and the bigger the crew, the bigger the riches. The cheap-looking ship was probably something of a cover. The kind of cunning Nami had come to expect from pirates on the Grand Line. After playing a bit of a stealthy thief, meaning Nami walked onto the ship ready to bash someone in the head with her Clima-tact, the Navigator saw the ship was empty, save for one treasure chest. No doubt loaded with the rarest and most valuable of jewels and gems imaginable. Without missing a beat, Nami quickly began to drag the chest off of the ship. This was normally the kind of thing she'd get Sanji or Zoro to do; but…it was oddly light. She should have figured out what was wrong then. But no, the Navigator kept on dreaming of riches until she got off of the ship. There was still plenty of space left to drag the chest, but she couldn't resist taking a peek; so she opened it and, of course, inside were the three worthless wooden statues. One was about a foot tall, another was about half that, and the last one took a few minutes to notice it was so small.

Disappointment didn't even begin to describe how Nami felt.

-----

Almost ready to cry the Navigator opened her eyes to end the nightmare that led up to such disappointment. All she had were a few worthless, hand-made…Huh? Nami looked to her hand to see the small statue missing. Damn, did I drop it? God I'm starting to act like Luffy! Quickly the pirate knelt over to examine the ground for this lost statue, slowly getting frantic in her search for it. Moments later it clicked how foolish this was. Wait, why am I looking for that piece of junk? She laughed, Let the poor punks who own this ship look all over for it. Still, the red-head was stricken by a mild curiousity, Nami wanted to look back into the chest at the other statues. She stood back up to do so.

And realized she'd completely missed what had happened.

At first Nami thought she had wandered around absentmindedly while thinking but no, the chest was still there in front of her. There was just one problem. She couldn't reach into the chest; because she was smaller than the chest. Indeed, currently the treasure chest rose above the red-headed beauty like a mountain. Hell the grass was bigger than her! Awe left even the intelligent Nami dumbstruck for a moment. How did this happen? It was obvious that she shrunk…but when? When she was daydreaming over the day? That was the only possible time, but even though her eyes were closed…She didn't hear anything. She didn't feel anything. Her clothes still fit nicely. So she shrunk without feeling even the slightest thing? Well odder things happened on the Grand Line she supposed. But that still left the question of How.

Two possible answers came to mind. A Devil Fruit or the Statues. But Nami never heard of any shrinking Devil Fruits; then again she also didn't believe in them until she met Luffy. If it wasn't that it had to be the statue she picked up, which would explain why it was missing…But there was no way it could've done that. The things were worthless! And Nami was never wrong about treasure, nope, never…Okay maybe there was a slight chance…

"This is no time to be casting blame! I gotta get someone to help me before I get stepped on!" Nami screamed as her hands started to tug at her notable hair. Of course, easier said than done. There was no real way of telling how small Nami was, but if the grass was taller than her…she had to be under an inch at the very least. Maybe half of one. And she was by no means fast…or strong…or resourceful in wild environments. And the Thousand Sunny was a good half a mile away on the other side of the docks. The crowded docks full of giant people who could crush her like a bug. Not even getting into the fact that half a mile to Nami had to be…over a hundred times that long.

So…walk and more than likely get crushed…Or stay here and probably get eaten by a bug before the day is over…Where's Luffy when you need him? Heck, where's SOMEBODY who can help me when I need it?! Nami thought to herself, getting more and more frustrated with each passing moment.

It was ironic though, because right at that time…Someone had arrived.

BOOM!!

Caught entirely off guard, Nami fell flat on her face as the entire ground seemed to quake.

BOOM!!

Another quake, this one louder and stronger. Though this time Nami managed to avoid falling again and had started to rise. Weakly she got back on her feet.

BOOOOOOOM!!!!!

Not even two feet away, the gigantic foot wear of some giant-sized (normal-sized) person landed right before Nami, creating a quake strong enough to knock the poor girl flat on the ground again; as well as throw a nice hurricane of dust into her eyes, blinding her and ruining her outfit. Whoever this giant was, they spoke with a voice that was clearly feminine, even with the amplified sound.

"What's this chest doing out here?"

Slightly dizzy from just how loud this voice was, Nami looked up to try and identify the person who could help her. The sun seemed to hide behind their head, creating an outline and shading her face from view. This didn't help the fact that Nami could hardly see. But in no time at all any blur that Nami saw vanished as the woman's features cleared. Imagine her surprise when Nami realized she knew this woman!

Nami looked up to…
