Katie eyed the little statue, it had gold leaf, which itself was probably worth that much, and knowing the Luckmanns, it was probably worth ten times as much, she could easily resell it after getting it appraised.
"Alright," she said and reluctantly opened her wallet, she pulled out her card
"No-no, cash only." the woman behind the counter said, pointing to a faded sign near the register.
"Okay, okay, lemme see if I have it on me." Katie knew she didn't but figured she could use it to haggle. Much to her surprise, however, she pulled a non-suspect hundred dollar bill out and handed it to the woman.
"Thank you very much!" the woman smiled and rang her up, placing the statue in a bag and handing her a receipt. Katie thanked her and scurried out and returned to her car, placing the statue on the floor of the passenger seat.
"That was crazy... I know I didn't have that much cash on me, I never do." she thought to herself. She looked down at the statue, it's face uncovered. It made her a little uncomfortable, so she moved the bag to cover it. The pulled her wallet back out, and opened it... nothing unexpected, just the seventy-five dollars she knew she had.
She put her wallet away, maybe that bill had just been hiding in there...
