Chapter #8

Taco Tuesday!

    by: Gabidy-Gook Author IconMail Icon
Katie tossed her phone down on her bed, and smiled a little. A taco truck stopped outside her office for lunch every Tuesday, and she absolutely loved their tostadas! First, however, she needed some breakfast. Katie cheerily went to her kitchen to prepare some scrambled eggs. She breaks them into a bowl starts whisking, then thinks

"These eggs need something a little extra... hmm. Oh! Shredded cheese!" she goes back to her fridge and grabs some shredded cheese to add in, eating a few extra pinches for herself. As well as another egg for the mix, "And while I'm here, Sara said that salsa can go really well in eggs, I think I'll try that out." Katie added the fourth egg to the mix and some salsa, finished whisking and poured it into a pan. A quick bit of work and she plated the steaming eggs. Pouring herself some juice, she sat down and dug in, moaning a little as she ate.

“What the hell?” she thought between more bites, “I never moan when I eat…” she quickly finished and drank her juice down, sighing contently. She shook it off and cleaned up after herself. She waltzed back to her room, looking at her bed and wanting to crawl back in, just relax and sleep the day away while snacking, maybe order in?

"What?"

No, she had to get to work. Actually, checking the clock, she was running a little behind. Katie quickly put on a work outfit, grabbed her purse and dashed to her car. She places her purse in the passenger seat and her heart falls into her stomach. She stares the statue in the eyes as it stares at her from the passenger side floor. This meant that yesterday did happen as she wished it hadn’t. She had gotten the statue, drove around, and then absolutely gorged herself on Mr Spiffy’s. She tried to shake it off, she had to get to work. She placed it roughly in the floor of the backseat so she didn't have to look at it. Pressing the gas, she quickly pulled out of her garage and whipped her way around and out of her neighborhood, almost sweating from how the statue made her feel. She fought urges to stop and get more food to eat despite her larger than average breakfast. Quickly reaching the parking garage, she parked and grabbed her purse and leap from her car, slamming the door and leaning against it, catching her breath.

"Katie? Are you alright?" A familiar voice asked. Katie nearly jumped as her eyes popped open, quickly fixing onto the source of the question. It was her friend Angela, the slim brunette who shared a cubical with her.

"Oh! Hey Anj, I'm alright..." Katie lied as she stole a glance into her car, the statue was still covered, so she relaxed.

"You seem pretty stressed about something." Angela pressed, "But we can talk about that on the elevator up to the office." Katie nodded as her friend walked with her to the elevator.

"I was just running late and needed to take a breather." Katie lied as the elevator doors closed and it started moving up.

"You're that worried about being late? The taco truck isn't even here until lunch time!" Angela chuckled

"Well, hehe, you know, I didn't want to risk it." Katie played along. She wanted to keep the statue a secret, didn't need anyone knowing what she knew was her retirement plan sitting in the back of her car. Katie shuddered a moment as the vision of the statue staring at her flashed in her mind. She quickly dashed to her desk alongside Angie and the two got to work filling out reports and excel sheets and other data processing things.

Break time was quickly upon the two women, prompting them to the breakroom, and-- more importantly to Katie-- the vending machine. She procured a dollar from her wallet and bought a hefty-looking candy bar, her stomach lightly growling as the coil turned. She sighed internally as two bars fell down to the retrieval area.

"You going to leave the other one in there?" Angie asked as she watched her fish only one out.

"Oh! I didn't see it." Katie smiled as she grabbed the other one as well. "Whatever, this happens all the time" she tried to soothe herself, she just wouldn't eat the other bar. Katie smiled to herself smugly as she placed the bar in her purse. The rest of her break was uneventful, and the two went back to their desks to work until lunch.

"Girl, it is Taco Time!" Angela said excitedly as the two got up. Katie quickly reached back for her purse, but stopped. Her eyes fixed on a candy bar wrapper on her desk, next to her keyboard. She clenched her jaw, but decided not to call attention to it.

"Guess I need to watch out for any accidental snacking too..." Katie thought as the elevator descended to the street level. She then happily thought about how her diet had kept her from owning snack foods or junk foods in the first place. "Surviving this until I can get rid of that statue will be a breeze." Katie exited the building with her friend and made her way through the line behind her.

"What're you getting today? I'm gonna get their chicken fajitas." Angie asked as they neared the front.

"I'm gonna go for the chicken tostadas." Katie replied. However, when it came her turn to order, she looked up at the friendly man in the truck and said "Fully Loaded Beef Tostadas, please." Her mouth closed and her eyes went wide, "Sorry, I meant: Fully Loaded Beef Tostadas, please." The man smiled back a little confused, Katie gave a stern look as she took a breath, "Chicken Tostadas", she thought, "Fully Loaded Beef Tostadas, please." she said.

"Are you alright, ma'am?" the man asked her, even more confused.

"Yes, I'm fine."

"And you want what you said, right?"

She hesitated, "Yes..." she pulled out her wallet, and handed him her card, which declined. Her stomach sank as she looked into her wallet and found the exact change for what she needed.

"Alright, thank you ma'am!" the man at the register said as Katie stepped to the side to await her meal. She rubbed her temples, thinking about what to do. Both times she had ordered out since getting the statue, she had ordered more than she had wanted, and had had perfect change for it, and her card declined. How was she going to live day to day like this? Maybe she could just eat this big meal, and then, feeling clever- or maybe just trying to resist to retain a modicum of control- she thought she could just eat half. How smart she thought she was.

Her order gets called and she goes to grab it. The bag feels heavy, way heavier than it already should. Katie opened it to see twice the amount of food she ordered.

"Hey! This isn't what I ordered?" she called to the worker busily assembling the next order. He didn't seem to hear her, so she tried calling to him again, realizing she had yelled at him, but he didn't turn from his work, only handing the next order to the next customer. She was about to yell again, when Angela tapped her shoulder.

"Katie, you alright? My food's getting cold, let's go." Katie started to try and explain all the thoughts going through her head about his whole situation, but decided not too. She would just eat what was now a quarter of her food, and save the rest. The two women sat at an outdoor table and started eating. Angela slowly taking her first bite then sipping from her drink. Katie slowly opened the first half of the tostadas, and bit into the first one. Her mind stopped as the flavors of the beef, cheese, hot sauce, beans, veggies, and the tostada itself swirled in her mouth, a cascading parade of flavors and textures, and tango of salty and savory, with the spice to keep the tempo upbeat. The fiesta of flavors continued as she ate, eat bite another beat in the song. Eventually, though, it came to an end.

"How to fuck did you eat all that, Katie!?" Angela exclaimed, having finished earlier and watched. Katie snapped out of the trance she had found herself in.

"I-- Wha-- ohh" Katie stammered as she dropped a napkin she had wiped her mouth with. Her stomach hurt, she looked down to see how round it was. She groaned as her hands reached to hold it. It was tight, firm , and round. Full of Fully Loaded Beef Tostadas. "Oh god this hurts.." she groaned again. "I didn't know I could even have this much food inside me.. " Katie pushed her skirt down and let her belly poke outward. She burped lightly and laid her head on the table.

"A-Are you okay?" Angela asked.

Katie slowly picked her head up and weakly asked:
