Lucy sipped her coffee with delight and prepared for her favorite time of the year, time to start teaching a new class of freshmen at college.
As many in her profession Lucy took great pride on what the role of being a teacher entailed, the idea of being able to help students be the best version of themselves and to instill not only the knowledge of what she has already learned and experienced, but the ideas and values that she considered important like recognizing the value of being independent and resourceful, or how the right mindset can take you far in life.
And of course, she did this influenced by both her personal beliefs and the current dominant ideologies in the environment about her, a gynarchy that applied at all social and political levels. In this world women have the power to make all decisions and men are expected to follow them and take an active role as supporters, putting their physical advantage at the service of the smarter and more capable gender. The way dissenters are dealt with in this system varies according to the decisions made by the women in charge, but in general men are greatly discouraged to behave in ways that imply they don’t accept women as their superiors.
What Lucy loved most about her job was making sure the values and ideas behind a system that in her mind greatly improved the world are passed on to the younger generations. As an Applied Sociology teacher she was in charge of making her students understands how the gynarchy came to be, all the advantages it offers for both men and women and why it makes sense for this belief system to be applied in all social areas, even in personal relationships. Thanks to previous education and the environment they grow up in students have an idea of how things are, but it was Lucy’s role to tell them why things as they are, and why alternatives are considered unacceptable and undesirable.
As always, Lucy was looking forward to see the reactions on those young impressionable minds when they saw the boring theory proved by practical experiments on the class itself, how their view on the world changed and became more refined under her tutelage. She had quite a few years of experience to the point she could see she has seen it all, but she never got tired of those “revelation” moments.
The only thing that was up in the air for now was the demography of her students, as her teaching plans changed depending on whether they were mostly male, mostly female or a healthy mix of both. And even after knowing that there could always be a special case that would enrich the teaching experience for everyone
