Ordinarily, Beast Boy never put that much thought into why the criminals he and his team went up against did the things they did. But today there was something troubling him that he just couldn't quite figure out. That being, what kind of dillhole commits at crime during lunch? Don't they get hungry too? Or do they get some sort of kick from making heroes skip a meal and fight on an empty stomach.
It was thoughts like these that bounced through his head while he was thrown through the glass window of the local Pet Planet pet store. Thankfully, he had the smart idea of turning into an armadillo and using his shell to shield himself. The customers and employees took cover as Beast Boy bounced and crashed into a pile of pet food sacks. He was disoriented but he could have been a lot worse.
He changed back to normal and groaned as he sat up. While his mouth was open, one of the torn bags above him and spilled some kibble into his mouth. The green guy was about to make a quip when he involuntarily swallowed some and started choking. He tried coughing and got the pet food dislodged but it wound up being swallowed. "Oh man, I hope Cyborg didn't see that." Beast Boy would worry about that later because Cinderblock smashed through the wall.
Beast Boy jumped back into the fight and morphed into a gorilla. He stopped Cinderblock from harming a huddled group of civilians by blocking his punch and distracting him long enough for Cyborg to fire his arm cannon. Beast Boy used the opportunity to leap onto Cinderblock and pummel his face in with punch after punch. Then he dismounted and kicked the stony villain backwards. Causing him to fall over and get detained by Robin and the others.
With the conflict resolved, Beast Boy reverted back and let out a sigh of relief. Smacking his lips at the oddly enjoyable after taste of the kibble. For food meant for animals, it was surprisingly tasty. He took a second to inspect the sacks he landed in but didn't recognize the brand, Food Fur All. What caught his eye though was that the packaging claimed it was all vegan. If that was the case, then this pet food was the best vegan food he had ever tasted. He helped himself to another handful when a hand landed on his shoulder.
"Thank you so much for saving us, young man."
Beast Boy did a spit take by the sudden, sweet voice. He turned and saw a middle-aged woman in a green uniform apron with name tag that read "Patty". She shook his hand and said, "I'd hate to think of what would have happened if you and your friends weren't here. If there's anything I can do to repay you, don't hesitate to ask."
This wasn't the first time someone had thanked Beast Boy for saving them or offered up a reward. Robin made it a policy not to accept any kind of payment but Beast Boy needed to do a little test. A taste test.
