Chapter #87Trial of cooperation by: Dragonboy   The Ninetales kept her face forward towards the stones you and your sister are holding while you are pondering does she knows them.
"W-We are holding the stones. The mega stone and key stone." Kate spoke out.
"I know what they are young one." she stated gently taking the two stones. "I can sense great power within them. Though I have to ask, where did you get these?" Felicity asked, feeling the stones in her paws.
"Well, we found them outside of our hometown after escaping. They were buried a bit and I saw it due to the sun reflecting the bit of it."
"Wait, a Raichu has one? I never heard of it." Vargus stated, turning towards the others who shakes their heads in response, not having heard it either.
"This one in particular is called a Raichuite. It's one of the rare mega-stones out there, much more than the usual ones." The Ninetales eyes were closed as she lightly hums, giving you the impression that she's trying to figure something out about the stones. "And are there any other Raichu's in your town?" Felicity asked.
"... My dad." you answer as you stare towards the two stones. Considering the whole situation going on in the region, you never actually take the time to consider the existence of the Raichuite being so close to your town. With everything you know, this stone has to have belonged to your father, but why would he have kept this a secret from you? You've been a Raichu for a couple of years now, so why not tell him about this?
"Interesting. Yes, I know about Mega-Evolution. It is a special evolution that temporary changes one into a more powerful version of themselves. Most of the time enhancing their power, sometimes even granting them a new type as well. Felicity explains, giving the stones back to you two. "The amount of power one gains is dependent on the bond the holders of the stones have: the stronger the bond between the two, the stronger the evolved Pokémon has. Although it does have a drawback of draining the evolved Pokémon's energy faster than usual."
"Yeah. Soon after Rai reverted back to normal, he soon blacked out and remained that way for the rest of the afternoon and night." Rachael added.
"Typically, the first time will drain drastically. A few cases do have those lose consciousness afterwards." The Ninetales said, sipping some tea. "Why are you bringing this up? Do you want me to help you two harness its power more effectively?"
You think about it and her words beforehand, while they know that the journey won't be easy so they need to work together and look after each other, this power can also help out if they really need it. "I believe that this could be beneficial to me and the others in emergencies.
"I agree that this could make a difference between victory and defeat, although if you want to learn how to use this power properly, you'll need to pass a couple of trials." she explained. "Would you still like to proceed?"
You look at your sister for her thoughts about this and the Pachirisu nods her head. "If this could help save our parents, then I think we should go for it." Kate responded to you and you smiled at her resolve. You turn to Felicity. "I'll take on the trials."
"Admirable. Now for the first one, I would need another to help you. Normally this would be the ones who'll be the wielders, but I'm worried this could be too strenuous for a child to handle."
Kate's head went downward at the words, but you patted her. "It's okay, I care for you the most of all." you say to her and that got her to smile again.
"If you're needing a partner, I'm up for it." You turn and saw the Buneary walking towards the three of them. "We've been looking after each other since we got out of town." Rachael pointed out.
"Thank you Rachael." he stated as she sat down with you.
"How long is this gonna take?" Felix asked, tapping his paw to the ground.
"Not long. Why don't you all relax and rest while the trials go?" Felicity offers to your group. Vargus smiled as he headed back towards the tunnels while Felix was a bit skeptical at this, though Nina responds with. "If we wanted trouble, we wouldn't brought you this far."
Neku nodded. "It's too much energy to put into a trap." the Zoroark stated as he walked back following the Croconaw as the Grovyle did the same.
"Now you all relax and ease your minds. It'll be completely harmless." She then closes her eyes and when she opened them once more, they started to glow white until the light completely takes your vision.
Once you’re able to get your awareness back, you saw that you’re now in an unfamiliar void. You were on a small platform and when you looked over the edge, you saw a black void with no sight of the ground. You back away before you could start feeling dizzy from the height as you turn and see Rachael was standing on a similar platform like you, though she was quite the distance from you.
“Rachael! You alright?” You call out to her and you saw her stirring a bit before she started to move her head.
“Rai? Where are we? What’s going on?” She asked you, noticing the void they are in.
“I… I’m not sure. I recall being in front of the Ninetales when her eyes glowed white. Now, I have no one idea where we are, or even if we’re even awake!” You stated, getting frantic.
“Rai… breathe.” Rachael spoke calmly, motioning you to breathe calmly. You did so, waited for her to respond to the situation.
“Felicity wouldn’t have went through all this trouble to mess with us. We’re probably just sent to some mystic part of the cave.”
"Understandable response.” A familiar voice sounded near them. They look and saw a illusion of a shiny Ninetales floating in midair. “Though there is no mystic part in the cave. I’ve simply projected this area within your minds. You are still in the cave in front of me. This is where the first test will be transpired.”
You and Rachael look at each other for a moment before you ask. “And what is the test gonna be about?”
You saw the fox smile as she answers with, “This is what I like to call the trial of cooperation. In order to pass, both you and your friend must reach the other side of this area to pass without one of you falling into the abyss below.” She must’ve sensed your confusion, because her smile got bigger as she continues speaking, “‘But Felicity, it’s way too far for us to leap. How can we possibly get across this gap?’” She then revealed two switches; one on each of their platform. Both of them look at each other for a moment before they move forward and stepped on the switches. They witness platforms appearing and lining a path towards the other side, though not fully with some appearing moments at a time.
"That's how." she stated as she raised an arm up and the next moment, they were both back where they started. "So just make it to the other side and you'll pass. Good luck." she stated before her transparent phantom-like form vanished from their view. You take a look at the distance between your platform and to the other side and it was very long. Something tells you that it won't be as easy as she makes it out to be. You take a deep breath before you turn towards your friend, who gives you a reassuring nod. With this, you and Rachael stepped on the switches, which revealed the partial pathway like before. Determination in both you and your friend's eyes, the two started to make their way along the path.
The pathways are quite slim and it does get slimmer at times where you have to be careful not to place your footing in a bad spot. You hear some humming behind you and you look back and saw that the platforms behind you are fading gradually. You were about to warn Rachael about this before she gives you a look that says she's aware of the improvised time limit on them as they continued onward. Thankfully you both managed to reach the first solid platform and takes a moment to compose yourself.
"Make sure not to be reckless, and not to waste time as well." Rachael calls out to you and you nod in response before you two continues onward with a new set of platforms. Each of you carefully continued onward until you heard Rachael's voice. "Rai, the path stops on my end." She stated, noticing yours are still going. "I can't go any further!" You started to get a bit nervous as you see the pathway continues, but it's on the other side of Rachael and she won't be able to reach it. 'There must be another way to help her get across.' You thought to yourself as you noticed a switch on the platform near you, but it contains rather skinny path for you to cross. You place your paws on the platform and struggled to keep your balance to get to the switch before its too late.
