Chapter #5

Intimidated

The others would have to wait. With any luck, he'd be the hero of the whole operation and save them all if he got back to normal. The truth of the matter was Max didn't have the means to find them at this point. He needed Julie's help, even if she had initially been an enemy in his view. He needed friends in, er, high places. Cycling through the options in his head, Max looked around at the cards he'd been dealt. There was the table, where he could hopefully get some sustenance or the scientist's attention, and there was also the floor route, where Julie's discarded Converse had fallen.

Max was more than a little intimidated by the massive pair of bare feet that lay before him, but he had to swallow his fear if he was to accomplish anything. After all, they were just feet, right? True, they had the tremendous crushing power to reduce him to a bloody smear, but at least they weren't moving, or worse, descending. He could just use them as a baselift, and once he felt secure he could attempt signaling Julie. there was really nothing to it as long as he didn't allow his apprehension to grapple for the best of him. Max inhaled deeply and hesitantly trudged toward the white monolith.

The man wasn't sure why way would be the best to approach this, but it seemed like the same idea as trying to climb a ramp. He wouldn't climb from the side, just like a foot, he'd go for the lowest point. In this case, it was the toes. Circling around from the heel to in front of the toes, Max felt smaller than he'd ever been. He wasn't even as tall as some of Julie's toes. Even so, he tried to block these thoughts, as they would only detract from his mission. Gripping one toe in order to hoist himself up, Max hoped he wasn't disturbing her too much, since now would not be a good time for her to move.
