Twilight and the new spell.
It was a typical day in Ponyville as Twilight woke up to sunshine again. As usual she got out of her bed, brushed her mane and did her regular morning routine. What wasn't usual was that she wanted to try something new.
She wanted to try a new spell. That wasn't too exciting, but was was that it was from a new book she got. The new book was titled Spells and Wonders. This book was rather thick but also had lots of pictures and diagrams describing the spells.
She looked through the book a couple of nights after she received it and was curious about one spell in particular. She saw that the book had various spells that could allow her to transform things and showed her new abilities she could do with her magic.
She was already rather skilled in magic but this book had spells she never saw before. One in particular was a weight spell. It was pretty simple and allowed her to change the weight of things.
Twilight wanted to see what the book meant. She flipped through pages of the spell and saw the diagrams. The pictures showed that the weight spell could change the gravity, mass and volume of things. So without too much hesitation, she decided to try the spell.
From previous experience, she learned that it was unwise to try new spells on herself, her friends, or animals. So she chose a simple rock. She got Spike to help her out with the spell.
She asked him to watch the rock and record any changes that took place. He agreed to help, being her assistant and all, and placed the rock on a scale for her. She started slow.
She first tried the gravity form of the spell. It worked and made the rock heavier. She then tried to reverse the process and it also worked. Twilight was excited that nothing went wrong. She now wanted to try something more advanced.
Next she went for the mass of the rock. It was very similar to the weight form but she noticed that the rock grew a little. That made her happy because it was expected. She shrank the rock back to normal and all was well.
Now she wanted to try the volume portion. She saw the rock grow but the scale didn't change. She was still happy. Now she wanted to move onto something more exciting.
She wanted to see if she could combine the forms. She first tried to make the rock small and heavy. It worked. After a short while of more tests, she was ready to try it on herself.
Spike knew that this could be dangerous, but seeing her previous success, he wasn't too worried. Twilight wasn't sure how her body would react but hit herself with the spell anyway. She was thrown back after she was hit.
