"Boy, howdy! This sure was a hard day!" Applejack fanned herself with her hat as she looked around. It was Applebuck season again, and she had decided on getting a bit of an early start. She had taken a chunk out of the trees today, much to her pleasure. Still, she had learned last year that bucking the entire farm herself was impossible, and hard on herself and her friends. Hopefully, her friends would be available to help her out tomorrow. As she turned back to her house, she found herself stumbling a little in the low light of dusk. "Hoo-eee. Maybe Ah overdid it a little..." She managed to get a few more paces before her legs gave out beside one of the larger trees. "Well, a little nap couldn't hurt..." Curling up under the tree, she put her cowpony's hat over her eyes. She fell into a deep sleep in moments.
Meanwhile, an indigo-colored mass lurked in the trees of Everfree Forest. If it had eyes, it would have glared at the setting sun. As it was, it could only settle for imagining the glare. It was not happy. Not since last year's Summer Sun Celebration, where it had been banished from the foal Luna. Yes, this indigo cloud was all that was left of Nightmare Moon, a formless mass known simply as the Nightmare. Its hatred of Celestia and her ilk had only increased with its seperation from the younger Princess. It now wanted nothing more to do with her, save making her suffer for another 1000 years. Still, it couldn't do much as a formless indigo cloud. The Nightmare was in a bad situation, and it knew it.
As it cast its gaze over Equestria, it spotted something. Focusing its gaze, it found itself looking at an apple plantation. And there, resting beneath one of the larger apple trees, was an orange-colored earth pony with a cowpony hat and a trio of apples for a cutie mark. The Nightmare would have grinned were it able. It recognized the bearer of the Element of Honesty, and now she was vulnerable.
