He eats a cursed, magical gemstone

As Spike's teeth shattered the gem, an ominous feeling crawled down his spine. It told him he shouldn't be eating this gem. The dragon began to spit out the fragments of the stone, but as his tongue moved over the delicious gem, he couldn't bring himself to waste it. Spike swallowed his favorite snack, and instantly felt his body changing.
