Chapter #4

A handful of balloons.

You stared at the floating multicolored orbs of helium floating around the store, wondering why you came in here again. There had been a nagging little tickle in the back of your brain that told you to come in here, but you couldn't for the life of you remember why. At that moment, a particularly large and glittered covered balloon floated by your face. It read in big blue letters printed on the side 'It's party time!'

You slapped the top of your head and said out loud. "Of course, the party!" Only to blush in realization that Susan was giving you an odd look.

"Sorry...," you quickly apologized. "I just remembered something was all."

You had been invited to party earlier in the week and you had totally forgotten until now. Cassandra, a girl in your class, was having her eighteenth birthday party while her parents were out on vacation for the summer. Even though the two of you never really saw eye to eye- actually, you really hated each other - she went out of her way to invite everyone from your class. Wishful thinking had you hope that Bryce, the guy whose attention you were trying to get, had convinced Cassandra to invite you to the party as well. Cassandra also had her eyes on him as well, giving you a good reason to loathe the girl. That and her self centered airhead attitude that made you want to slit your throat and kill yourself if stuck in a conversation with her.

The party was in two days. It'd probably be an unsupervised drinking fest, you wouldn't get much entertainment out of it other then a few laughs from the stupid things the drunks would be doing (you didn't drink after all). You wouldn't even be interested it if Bryce wasn't going and even then you were only going to prevent Cassandra from getting her hands on him. You liked solitude more than parties, after all.

The catch to going, however, was that everyone had to bring something for the party. It didn't matter what: plates, food, music, balloons. Anything would do. Considering you were in a balloon shop.

"What would you recommend for a party?" you asked Susan.

"A party? Hmmm. Well there is a party pack, it has all the types of balloons you see around the store and then some."

"How much is it?"

"$24.99."

That wasn't too bad. Loads cheaper than what you expected you were going to have to pay. Satisfied, you had Susan ring up the bag, which was bigger then you thought it would be, and you quickly brought it home.

Due to rushing out of the mall, you didn't even bother to check to see what sort of balloons were in the giant bag and Susan had been vague with what she meant by 'all the types of balloons'. Curiosity eventually got the best of you so you tore open the plastic wrapping and dumped the balloons on the floor of your room only to discover Susan wasn't being vague at all. There literally were every sort of balloon imaginable inside the bag. Some even appeared to be water balloons.

For a laugh, you decided to blow one up and see how it looked. You reached down and grabbed...
