Money does grow on trees. Every baby in the world gets one planted on the day of their birth. Since everybody has a money tree, money doesn't have any value. You can't eat it, the leaves are too tough and taste bitter. Since everybody has plenty of them, you need a half tree's worth of leaves for one loaf of bread. To make up for all of the other needs in your life, you have to barter what you have. Since you don't have much, you have to work for food and shelter.
I wish everybody on the whole wide world had 2000 calories to eat every day. Even the ascetic Buddhist monks.
