Chapter #4Punished. by: Unknown "Gigi!"
Once again, Alex had been humiliated in front of the entire school by the bane of her existence: Gigi Hollingsworth. Spilling juice on her pants at school today was the last in a long line of cruel pranks: Placing seran wrap over the toilet seats, putting a thumb tack on Alex's chair right before she sat on it, and the worst one of them all, pouring a small amount of castor oil into her Coke. She shuddered at the memory.
Well, she had had enough. Yeah, she used to enjoy the back-and-forth nature of their rivalry, but Gigi was getting way too cruel, and taking things way too seriously. It was time to take drastic action, to strike so hard that Gigi would never recover from the psychological scars. And she was going to recruit magic to do it.
It was twelve minutes after midnight, but of course Alex was still awake. She usually chose to sleep in the afternoons (and during Science class, which might explain the 14 missing assignments), because it was much easier to do... illicit activities when there weren't other people snooping around, trying to get all in her business. There were no lights on in the lair, save for a single black candle, lit with an indigo flame.
For you see, Madame Darkheart's Big Book of Hexes and Such could only be read, could only be comprehended in the darkness of midnight, illuminated solely by an enchanted black candle. She had payed a handsome sum to get her hands on this treasure trove of revenge, and it was worth every cent. Settling on a spell, she couldn't help but grin from ear to ear.
Getting to work, she drew a chalk symbol on the floor, a strange sort of figurine. Placing the candle in the center of the symbol, she picked up one of the many ceremonial daggers her father had laying around in the lair. It was inscribed in some ancient language that was probably incomprehensible to the human mind, and decorated with three rubies on the hilt. Kneeling before the flame, she made a quick slashing motion on her arm, not giving herself time to chicken out. A small gasp escaped her lips, and a few drops of blood fell onto the flame. Rather than extinguish it, the blood caused the fire to turn bright red. She quickly recited the spell:
"Demons, demons, in the night,
See my fire, blood and bright
As the blood made flame turn red
I wish to see my rival bled"
And with a high-pitched farting noise and a poof of smoke, the spell was completed. Before her stood a scrawny demon, with stubby horns and splotchy skin. Alex jumped up, and with a sinking feeling realized that the demon was only as high as her waist. She didn't know a whole lot about the dark arts, but she did know that the powerful demons were big.
"Hello, pathetic human! My name is Scorden, and I'll be your liaison to the underworld tonight. How may I help you?"
"Um, hello. I'd like to drive my enemy to the brink of insanity through humiliation, please."
"Ooh, sorry kid. You obviously meant to summon a much more powerful demon. I'm not authorized to drive people insane. Hey, pay more attention to the amount of blood you draw next time, right?"
Alex groaned. Maybe she should get Justin to help her summon a better demon. No, there's no way he'd help her do that. Alright, she'd make do with what she had.
"Alright, alright, well what can you do? Maim my enemy?"
"'Fraid not, kid."
"Torture her?"
"Sorry."
"Can you at least give her food poisoning or something?"
"Actually, yes! As a matter of fact, I'm training to become Chief Demon of Stomach Problems. I can give her a really bad case of diarrhea, and I can make it last a long time, like a week!"
"Got anything better?"
"No. Take it or leave it, kid."
