A Princess' Woes

by: The ColdBlood King Author IconMail Icon
Princess Zelda sat by the Vanity in her room. She wrote in her diary, taking the occasional glance out her bedroom window into the night sky. She felt trapped in her palace. Her room was in the tallest tower of the castle. She was hardly ever allowed to leave it. Her father - King Leo, kept her hidden away like a treasure, ever since she reached the age of 13. She wasn't able to go to the Courtyard - her most favorite place in the castle, not even if Impa was with her. And worst of all, her chastity belt was a heavy and annoying burden on her waist. Why did her father make her wear it? It was a rare occasion when she was allowed to remove it, only to have it replaced with another. At this point, it was like her father tried to control everything she did.

The entry in her Diary consisted of the Hylian customs. Ever since it was established, a man has always served as primary monarch, where as queens hardly had any power, and served only as figureheads. Therefore, Zelda learned that her father did not plan to pass the throne onto her. She wouldn't be allowed to rule when her time came. Instead - she was lavished and surrounded by jewels, and servants, and luxurious comforts, to passify her into compliance. She wasn't her father's heir...She was just his jewel. And he kept her clean and polished, and hidden away from the rest of the world.

It's not that she was hungry for the powers of the throne, its just that, she did believe that she could be a more than capable leader. But instead, if she wanted the Throne, she'd have to settle for taking the Back-seat to someone else. Yes - now that she was 18, her father was bringing in Suitors. From many other kingdoms near Hyrule, he brought in young Nobles and Princes to try and win her hand. But all of them were boring and were only obsessed with becoming King of Hyrule. And worst off, none of them had a Spine between them. So Zelda rejected them all.

She had to - she had to somehow hold her Father's Will off long enough for SOMETHING to happen - something that would change her fate to marry one of those boring, spineless, blue-bloods. Because someone else had already captured her heart - someone strong, and brave, and truly Noble. The Boy from the Forest that she met so many years ago - Link, the boy who became her Hero. She remembered, on her birthday, he convinced her to sneak out of the castle and accompany him to the Market Place, where they played together. The summer she'd spent with him, was the best of her life. He taught her about the life outside of the castle. But then one day, as the summer began to close, he had to leave. He said there was someone he needed to find - so to wish him luck, she gave him her Family's Sacred Treasure, The Ocarina of Time. An instrument that he was already familiar with.

But when he left, she felt an emptiness that she had not felt before. Her heart ached for him to one day return. Even though she was very young, she knew that this feeling was Love. And why wouldn't she be in love with him? She owed everything to him; Hyrule owned everything to him. He told her a fantastic story - that while it was bewildering, something deep inside her knew it was true. Link traveled into the future where Ganondorf had succeeded in stealing the Triforce of Power and then took over Hyrule and ushered in Seven Years of Darkness. Luckily, Link and Zelda teamed up together and took Hyrule back from the Evil King, and cast him into the pit.

But then, as a reward for all Link had done, Zelda sent him back in Time using the very same Ocarina so that Link could regain his childhood, and prevent the awful future from happening. But Zelda was now a completely different person that who she was from the future that Link saved. She thought it over - and realized that sending him back in time was the worst strategy she could've employed. It basically negated everything that Link had worked so hard for. What was the point of sending him back in Time, when her plans as a child inadvertently allowed Hyrule's downfall? If it wasn't for Link retaining his memory, it was almost certain that history would play out and nothing would change.

But what she didn't like most of all was the fact that she treated Hyrule like a Do-Over. Why wouldn't she let Link stay in the future with her? Together, they could've rebuilt Hyrule and had a new beginning - lead Hyrule into a better future. Sending him back and time made Zelda think that her future counterpart was a coward and that she was too afraid of the responsibilities of ruling. So she erased it all from happening. Sure it seemed like a good idea to spare the people of Hyrule of a rather grim Dictatorship. But there was however one major flaw in the plan; Ganondorf.

All of Zelda's suspicions about the man were true. But even if Link prevented him from ever getting the Triforce of Power, he was still a Wizard. He could somehow find a way to take Hyrule by force - threaten her father, or kidnap her. In the future, he was locked away and could no longer do harm. But going back into the past, where he remained free. The only one who could prevent the future was Link. He told Zelda the story, but still, they were only children. She had told her father her fears of Ganondorf before. And as expected, he didn't believe her. So when she and Link went before him, not only did he not believe her, but he was furious that a peasant boy was in his castle. He ordered Link thrown out of the castle or into the dungeon. So Ganondorf continued to walk free. But since Zelda had given the Ocarina of Time to Link, he could never open the door of time. He never laid siege to the castle.

So he kept up the charade for the past seven years. Zelda grew up into a beautiful young woman. And then one day, Link returned, now the handsome young man that had saved all of Hyrule. Zelda suddenly stopped writing in her diary. She looked out the window and saw that the moon was high in the sky - it had to be after midnight. She finally closed her book. She moved to her wardrobe and brought out a pair of boots. She slipped off her heals and put them on. She also brought out a length of Rope hidden inside one of her dresses. She'd done this several times before, ever since Link came back to Hyrule. She tied one end of the rope around the desk attached to her Vanity. She threw the rope out the window that slithered down the tower of her castle.

She donned a black cloak and slipped out the window. She began to slide down the rope. She landed in the courtyard, near the garden where she spent her childhood days. Using methods taught to her by Link, she managed to slip past the guards. She then came to the part she hated most of all - the drain in the small pool near the far side of the castle. Its how Link first slipped into the castle to meet her. She used to sneak out with him through this way - it was no problem for children to do it. But ever since she had come of age, it got tighter and tighter. Her large bosom and wide hips would make for a rather tight squeeze. But regardless she did manage to get out.

She followed the moat to the side of the castle where it slipped into an underground cave, guarded by a steel gate. She managed to move some loosen bars out of the way and slip through. The cave led to outside of Castle town, allowing the water to serve as an outer moat before joining the river. She pulled herself out of the moat; the hard part was over. She quickly fled to the side of the outer wall of Castle Town Market. Now, she would
