"Sweetie," my mom said. "You work so hard at school. I've heard stories about what your so-called friends do to you for so long." I blushed at the insinuation, but I had complained about some of those experiences to her. She took both of my hands and held them. "You are my only daughter. I only want what's best for you, and the only way I know how to do that is to get you away from here. Just for a little bit." She pulled me in towards her and hugged me tight. "I won't force you, Sweetie. You have to make your own decision."
She let go of me and stepped back, looking me in the eye, trying to see what I was thinking.
