Chapter #5

Out to Lunch

    by: SavvyPony Author IconMail Icon
From the Writer: Alright, this is supposed to be a plot heavy story, so let's try and pace ourselves...

Twilight had managed to make it through her very first Winter Wrap Up in Ponyville relatively unscathed. Looking out from her library window, the emerging spring made for quite a sight. Birds were nesting in the library's branches, foals were out playing after school, Rarity was approaching with a basket on her back. Twilight glanced back to the road once that last one registered, finding it was indeed her fashionable friend wandering towards her residence, dressed up more than usual. Twilight closed the book she had been reading, and got up just in time to greet her friend at the door.

"Good morning Twilight Sparkle." Rarity greeted her, enunciating her words with that pleasant, not-quite-foreign not-quite-familiar voice of hers. Twilight smiled at her, stepping aside as an unspoken invitation into the library.

"Good morning Rarity. Is there anything I can help you with?"

"Perhaps. I'm actually looking for company on a little outing I'm having. Would you be free to have lunch out by the park today?" Rarity asked her, batting her eyelashes. Twilight would have taken the cue if it wasn't for the fact that Rarity couldn't talk without batting her eyelashes... and the fact that Twilight couldn't read social cues if they were printed on billboards. The basket on Rarity's back did in fact look like a picnic basket, and a rather large one at that. Twilight had her answer almost immediately.

"That sounds wonderful! What's the occasion?"

"Oh, first day of spring and all that. I was going to invite Fluttershy, but the poor dear's up to her feathers in newborn animals. It'd be just you and I, if that's alright."

Twilight nodded. "What should I wear?" She was referencing Rarity's flowery sundress, all light pinks with a matching wide-brimmed hat. In a world where nudity was normal, going to the effort of putting on a dress seemed a little much for just a picnic. Then again, this was Rarity...

"Oh, I'm just airing out my closet. Feel free to put on any old thing." Rarity waved the question away. Twilight did register that nudity was omitted as an option however, so she gave a quick nod and turned around.

"I'll be right back." It was nearing lunchtime, and it was obvious Rarity was already to go straight to the park. Twilight headed up the stairs, into her bedroom, and towards her dresser. She had a nice light blue saddle that would do nicely. She magicked it up and around her, slipped the buckle into the... into the... Twilight exhaled, feeling the straps of the saddle slide away from each other. Confused, she glanced in the mirror. She looked same as always... but, trying to force the straps into their usual combination, Twilight found her waist being cut in two. Realizing she was keeping Rarity waiting, Twilight let the straps out a little... then a little more... and finally got the saddle in place. She briefly considered finding a hat, but that was really Rarity's thing.

"Ready to go." She said as she reached the stairs again, finding Rarity waiting patiently. Her friend smiled at her, and they were quickly off for the park. Twilight breathed deep in the spring air, but that only brought attention to the still-snug saddle around her.

"Rarity?" Twilight caught her friend's attention. "This might be a silly question, but, since you know so much about fashion and clothes... can saddles shrink? In the wash?" Her ears flattened against the side of her head, but Rarity gave her a calm smile.

"I know what you mean, dear. Don't worry, nearly everyone finds their wardrobes snug after the winter holidays."

"Really? But you look as good as ever!" Twilight stated it as a fact, But Rarity fluttered her eyelashes even more than usual.

"Why Twilight, you'll give a girl the wrong impression with lines like that. And thank you dear, I do try to watch myself. I really should have warned you after you moved in; Ponyville is an earth pony town, and if you eat like an earth pony, well, I just don't know where they put it all. I wager you've never eaten like you have hear, hmm?"

Twilight gave that some thought, spacing out as they walked. There was sugarcube corner... and sweet apple acres... and of course Twilight had to order in instead of getting school cafeteria food here, and had discovered a few favorite fast-food places... then there were all the parties and celebrations and feasts...."

"I guess I haven't been watching what I've eaten." Twilight said. Now that she was paying attention, it was pretty obvious that her tummy was rounder than it used to be.

"At the risk of giving the wrong impression." Rarity told her. "You look marvelous, dear. It would be a shame for you to ruin your figure, because you have quite the figure. Just take care."

Twilight's cheeks were burning, but she smiled, her ears perking up. "Thanks Rarity. Maybe I just need some new outfits then."

"Oh, that would be so much fun. Perhaps we can discuss something over lunch?" Rarity offered. Twilight nodded, liking the sound of that. She had a figure? Who knew!

You have the following choices:

*Noteb*
1. Twilight and Rarity enjoy a good, hearty lunch

2. Rarity's packed light... leaving Twilight hungry

*Noteb* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
