The school year began

Ah, the start of the school year. If anything can make a boring summer vacation seem enviable, it's the prospect of going to school for seven ours a day and doing homework for three more. Fortunately for Dan, his best friend Sam was in several of his classes. Less fortunately for Dan, his cousin Laura started going to school with him too, and whether Ashley's new job as a student teacher would be good or bad remained to be seen.

On the first day of school, Dan expected it to go like the first day always went, with every teacher explaining the class rules without expecting them to do any actual work or thinking, but he was in for a surprise, because when he got there...
