I stared at the giant shopping cart. It’s such a blunt everyday object I thought to myself as I continued to get pelted by god’s buckets of water. I thought of how intimating the object was as I stood there and gaped at it. I wondered to myself what an average human would look like at this height. My senses kicked back in as the adrenaline wore off. I realized that the temperature outside was freezing and instinctively I began to shiver. My world turned dark as something blocked out the light. I thought to myself that this was it and I prayed silently to myself that the lord would take me swiftly. I looked to the heavens to expect a shoe or a boot heading towards me about ready to crush the life out of me, but instead I saw the hand of god. It had this angelic halo around it that I assumed the halo came from the lights in the parking lot. The hand grabbed onto the cart and my world went back into full speed. I jumped onto the bottom of the cart and couldn’t wait until I was back inside, outside of this hateful Minnesota weather. The cart bounced and rattled as it moved slowly through the parking lot. It was at this moment in time that I really got a feel of my current size. I saw the pant legs of the angelic hand and could only figure that I was about ankle height. I stood on unsteady feet and I could barely touch the bottom of the basket. I knew that it was this moment in time that I was four inches tall, or short.
I waited for the smooth concrete of the sidewalk as the cart threatened to shake me to pieces. I suddenly felt weightlessness as the cart slammed into the concrete barrier of the sidewalk. I hung on to the car for dear life until I was slammed back into planet earth. I almost lost my grip which would have resulted in certain death. The cart continued forward and I felt a familiar rattling of a bad wheel, I heard some course words from the person in the panted legs with the angelic hand. The cart lurched forwards suddenly and then veered onto its side before going fully over as it slammed into the wall of the Calhoun Mall. I slammed into the unforgiving concrete and felt something crack in my lower back. I stood to my surprise to find that it had not been broken just put out of place. I had a moment of self-victory and then I remembered my current situation and also the fact I had no one to celebrate my little victory against the shopping world. I hunched my shoulders slightly but then I heard the automatic whoosh of the doors open and I felt the radiating heat come out of the building. I was now thankful for the Angelic Hands outburst as I quickly dashed for the door. I made it inside just as the door began to close and that is when I heard a familiar voice. I looked up from my position of my hands on my knees to see Melissa striding to the door with a phone to one ear and an earbud to another. I had always hatred the way my girlfriend tuned out the world, mostly because she never heard you when you talked on the phone, but she never heard anything around her either. I tried to scream but due to the lack of being physically fit, I was still out of breath and my scream sounded like an aired out whistle. I watched the automatic door open and debated whether to follow or not due to the fact I had spent almost twenty minutes of getting inside.
