First Escape

You're quickly bound, most of your body restrained before you're tossed in unceremoniously. You land with against the bird, giving a grunt of pain when you do. He seems to give something like a wince, but doesn't make any noise after. The cage door slams shut, and before you can move again, it gets locked as well.

"Easy. You don't want to damage the Krethid." The second man quietly watched the scene, taking another sip from his drink.

"Bah. He put up enough of a fight when we were netting him. He can stand having a kid tossed at him." The man grunted as he sat back down, glancing at the cage before looking around again. "Least it broke the monotony some. I was hoping the kid would put up a better fight, though."

The two continued their conversation for a while, but you only looked up at the bird. His eyes seemed faded, an odd shade of grey softly looking back at you. You tried to get up slowly, but only manage to roll off, stuck on the ground and looking back up at him. "Sorry about the rough landing..."

Although his eyes followed you, he didn't seem to speak. He just looked at you blankly as you spoke. You looked back at him, uncertain of how to react. However, neither of you could really say another word. He seemed to make a quiet, chirp-like noise, but you couldn't make heads or tails of it.

"I'll... figure something out. Try not to worry." You try to smile a little at him, though you have a bit of a time trying to convince yourself of that.

You swallowed as the hours seemed to pass by. With night falling in a matter of hours, and nothing of note happening, there didn't seem to be anything else you could do. You kept your eyes on the one confined with you, but tried to spare a glance at the slavers nearby. Your bindings were tight, and there didn't seem to be much you could do but wait and hope. As night fell, you saw the two of them starting a fire, before starting to drift off for the night...

"Both of them are sleeping at the same time?" You muttered quietly to your companion when you notice it, your heart starting to race. It was clear that one of them was enough to catch you, but if they didn't even bother posting a guard, then you might be able to get away. You were tied down pretty tightly, but if you were careful...

"Give me a hand." The Krethid quickly raised his head, looking for a moment before turning back to you. You try to roll a little, worried he would wake them when you moved on. However, he managed to remain completely silent as you shifted. You tried to raise your arms enough, his beak tapping against them. He seemed confused until his beak made contact with the ropes. His eyes widened, and he gave a sharp nod before starting to peck and bite, only taking a few moments to tear through them.

"Glad they didn't use anything stronger than that... Hold still." You quietly move, your hands able to work on the knots wrapped around his arms. While they were tight, you just worked quietly and eventually managed to pull his talons loose. From there, it only took a moment before he had slashed the rest off. "Okay... We're loose... Now for the cage..."

You see him raise his arm, ready to cut at the metal cage. However, you quickly grab his harm, shaking your head furiously. He seemed surprised by the gesture, and tried to follow through on his strike, but you held him tight. "You can't wake them," You hissed at him. Although he didn't seem to get it, you simply held him tight, preventing him from moving until he relaxed his arm. You sigh and nod. "I want to get out, too... Don't worry, okay? I've got another idea..."

You close your eyes as you move your hand to the lock, and mutter something quietly. You gently drag your fingertips along the hole in the lock, letting your mind relax. You muttered quietly under your breath, and slid your hand a little, almost shaking at it. You grinned as you heard something click, slowly swinging the cage door open.

"Good... Lock like this doesn't take much." You grin as you step out, glancing around for your things. It seemed they had just left them in the bushes where you were found, so you started to rush towards it. However, you paused as you moved, feeling the Krethid's talon catch on your arm. You paused to look at him, doing your best to figure out what he wanted. He only managed to convey it from where he was looking, but it seemed like...

You have the following choices:

1. He wants to leave with you.

*Noteb*
2. He wants to take care of the slavers first.

*Noteb* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
