Chapter #5Consulting a client by: Yote You look your latest "client" in the eyes and sigh. You have a waiting list of patients a mile long, you don't have time for this... time-waster. "Yes, of course I could do the surgery - emphasis on could. And I could even fit you in by next week if - and I stress the if - I were to cancel a very nice date with a very beautiful and - I might add increasingly rare - genuine woman. I could. The question is should I do those things."
The client waits patiently. "And...?"
"And the answer if most definitely no. No, no, no. It breaks every rule of medical practice, it's unethical and most of all it's just plain gross. I'm not going to perform a six hour sex-reassignment operation on my own dad, dad!"
Across the table, your dad sags. He shakes his head sadly, collecting the piles of annotated women's magazines he has taken from your waiting room and strewn across your nice new office table, and begins to fold them slowly and put them in his bag. He collects the pens he had used to annotate the specific celebrity body parts he wanted to have, slotting them into the pocket of his tweed jacket. "So that's how it is then. Fair enough. This is your office and I can't argue with you. I suppose I'll just see myself out then." Tutting under his breath, he stands yet lingers. "That's gratitude isn't it. You spend all your life saving up money just so you can put your favourite son through medical college. You work your hands to the bone in the hope that he might one day have a good life, a better life... And then you ask him for one little favour..." He gave a defeated shrug.
"Dad, I'm not twelve, you can't guilt me i to things anymore! And maybe I'd be more inclined to believe you want to be a woman if you'd not spent the last few years criticising my line of work! You hate this whole sissy, ladyboy, shemale business! You think it's immoral."
"It is immoral! That doesn't mean I don't want it!"
"But why?"
"I don't have to explain my reasons to you."
You fold your arms. "I'm afraid, if you want me to allow this, you do."
He retakes his seat. "Oh, very well. I was hoping I wouldn't have to tell you this but... it's your mother. She's divorcing me."
"Really?" you gasp, though in your head you think 'finally'.
"I'm afraid so. I suppose she has her reasons. Reason one being that she's an evil, ice-hearted, witch!"
Reason two being that you've been sleeping with Ms Foster who runs the fish-and-chip shop for ten years, you think. It was an open secret that your parents had despised each other for years, staying together only for the children and he neighbours.
"Anyway, the long and short of it is that it looks like she's getting the house and most of my bank account. My lawyer says that it's pretty much a foregone conclusion. Apparently these settlements always go the way of the wife... But if there were two wives..."
He leaves it hanging. You put two and two together. "You want me to give you a sex-reassignment procedure, turn you into a woman, so that you can get more favourable divorce terms?"
"Bingo! Furthermore it'll allow my lawyer to argue that the reason the marriage fell apart was because I was born in the wrong body or whatever rather than because of - err- well-"
"Ms Foster?"
He gives you a sharp look. "Hmm. It makes me look less like the offending party. So, now that I've told you my reasons, will you do it? It doesn't even need to be permanent, you can put me back together again once the divorce is finalised."
"Dad, if I say I'll think about it will you leave my office and let me get back to the patient I have open on the operating theatre?"
"I'm already out of your hair," he smiles, skipping to the door. "Oh, and decide quickly, boy, she starts court proceedings next month." indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
