Chapter #7Switch to Brandon's POV by: Koechophe Brandon was not looking forward to going home. His game plan was to try and hide in his room for as much of the night as he possibly could. As long as he avoided other people, he wouldn't shrink at all.
Yeah. Easier said than done. Brandon opened the door to his house. It didn't look like his mom and dad were around, so he started tiptoeing up the stairs.
"Where do you think you're going, young man?" his dad asked. Brandon lost another inch, and he winced.
Really? "Young man" is enough to do it?
His dad raised his eyebrows at seeing his son shrink, but didn't say anything about it. "You promised you'd help Tony with his homework, remember?"
"Oh. Sorry, I forgot. I'll go do that now."
"Thanks, son," his dad said. Fortunately, "son" didn't seem to trigger it. Brandon exhaled in relief. He was already five inches shorter. At 5'1, he wasn't even that much bigger than his 4'4 ten-year-old brother.
Brandon went down the hall to his little brother's room. Tony was laying on his bed, playing on his DS.
"Hey, is now a good time to work on homework?" Brandon asked.
"In a minute. I'm almost done."
"Okay." Brandon sat down on the bed next to Tony. "Ugh, stop bugging me, I'm trying to focus!" Tony said. Brandon lost another inch.
Seriously? "Bugging" triggers it? He thought about it for a second and realized that it was more likely because Tony had treated him like a kid.
Tony took another fifteen minutes to finish up, then he put the DS down. "Okay. Homework?"
Brandon nodded and hopped to his feet. By this point, his shirt was massive on him. Tony giggled. "Geeze, you're getting small," he said.
Brandon lost another inch, and he grunted. He wasn't sure what exactly his family thought about the shrinking, but true to James's wish, none of them seemed to be questioning it.
"Let's just do the homework, okay?"
"Sure, sure." Brandon sat with Tony and helped him on his numbers. The kid was smart, but he had a hard time figuring out fractions. No matter how many times Brandon explained it, he just wasn't getting it.
"Ugh! Can't you just do it for me?"
"No, then you won't learn anything."
"You're such a little goodie-two-shoes," Tony muttered, making Brandon shrink another inch. Now at 4'9, he was barley bigger than Tony. His shirt and shoes were hopelessly oversized, but he wasn't ready to just go around shirtless while he shrunk.
"Think of it this way," Brandon explained it using a whole pizza as an example, and Tony started to follow along. He was finally able to get him to understand it all.
"Thanks," Tony said, looking down at his completed worksheet. "I think I'll actually pass the test now."
Brandon smiled. "Glad I could help." He turned to leave.
"Hey... do you maybe want to stick around? We could play with toys, or something, maybe."
Brandon lost another inch. He gulped. "Playing with toys" would likely mean a lot of being treated like a kid, especially since even just Tony asking was enough to shrink him. But it'd been a long time since Tony asked him something like that. He figured the kid had some reason for reaching out that had nothing to do with the toys.
He finally said... indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
