Chapter #6

Vicky hated how society was

    by: Karla Author IconMail Icon
Vicky hated the system as it was, her family had been sure to raise her without prejudice, she had been raised out in the country instead of in the busy city, where her family’s farm was sandwiched between a few dozen smaller ones run by felines, equines, even cows and sheep, and she’d spent many summers playing in the fields with the children. Life was different in the cities, non-canines were second class citizens compared to dogs, only allowed to hold lesser jobs, go to worse schools and treat their own kind, even if there were a shortage of canine doctors they weren’t allowed to help out. Vicky had no problem helping out, and if she was at home, she’d have jumped at the chance to enjoy time with the non-canines, but here in the city the non-canines hated the canines as much as they hated them.

Vicky stepped into the elevator, pushing the bottom for the second floor, the designated area for ‘Sector 8’, a single floor held for the non-canines while canines had nearly a dozen for themselves. Vicky rocked on her paws as she waited in the lift, trying to cheer herself up, she was sure if she gave out a friendly atmosphere the others would relax around her.

The doors slid open finally, and as soon as it was, a dozen non-canines, ranging from Felines to pigs all stopped to glance towards her, lowering their heads slightly before they continued on their way. Vicky just smiled, trying to look as friendly as possible as she padded out of the lift and took a right, heading down towards the reception area.

The reception was staffed by a looming horse, a Clydesdale, just like one of the families that owned a farm by hers. She padded right up to her, offering a bright smile as she held her hand up towards the near nine foot horse. “Hey there! I’m Vicky, I’ve been assigned to help you guys out for the next month!”

The horse glanced across towards her, frowning deeply, letting out a loud snort from her wide nostrils, blasting warm air over Vicky's face. She glanced down towards the offered hand before stuffing a file into it, “Get to work then, I’m sure you aren’t being paid to talk.” Vicky’s ears lowered at that, but she just nodded, taking the file before turning and walking off, trying to avoid the gazes being cast towards her from the other nurses.

You have the following choices:

*Noteb*

2. There is an emergency in the canine section

*Noteb* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
