Claire's days became increasingly slow, full of eating and napping after school and munching on snacks during class. She was almost always eating something, but as the school year ended, her weight gain was less than her parents had hoped for. With summer only a few days away, and all of Claire's finals and assignments completed, they say at her bedside one evening to talk about a new plan.
"Claire, honey," her mother began, "you don't need to go to school anymore. You can stay home and learn from here." Claire looked puzzled, but her dad continued before she could ask anything. "You haven't gained as much weight as we'd hoped. Big breakfasts and big dinners and great, but to gain like your cousin is and as your mother did, you have to be full at all times."
A few minutes later, with all the details sorted out, a tray was brought in so Claire could eat in bed. Her mother smiled. "Your father's getting an enormous raise at work, so now I can quit and stay home to constantly cook for you. Any time you're not eating, you're sleeping. I'll even bring a TV up here, with movies and games to keep you busy. When school rolls around, I'll buy you a laptop for you to work on online classes. You'll never have to get up except to use the bathroom and take a shower, so you have nothing standing between you and getting fatter."
