"Yeah." Eric sipped lemonade and took another sugar cookie. "I'm really looking forward to my Senior year."
"It's so amazing to see you so grown up. It seems like just yesterday you were sturggling to get play time in Pop Warner. Captain of the football team is so great."
Eric was almost a family member for his next door neighbors, Bob and Ginny Grant. He'd done yard work for them for years and they treated him just like a son.
"Your Mom says that you are hoping to get scouted and play in college." Ginny was proud of Eric and felt like a second Mom.
"Looks like that gym work you've been doing really paid off.." Bob was a former college stud still sturdy and strong but about 100 pounds over his playing weight in college. He was matching Eric cookie for cookie.
"I'd like to add aother 15 pounds of muscle." Eric sipped more limonade and took another cookie.
"Let me know if I can help. You might need a workout buddy."
Ginny laughed. "Bob's not so much into workouts these days but but he has mastered adding weight."
Bob shuffled in his chair. "Well, it's not like I get much help. You and all your gourmet cooking. I can't help myself."
Eric enjoyed his neigobors. He managed to stop my several times a week. Ginny always had something good to eat and Bob always appreciated his football stories.
Since his parents were not into sports other than supporting Eric's he liked having Bob to bounce ideas off. Bob had been good in college but not quite good enough to make the pros. Now, Eric could feel that Bob was hoping that Eric could make it all the way. He had been thinking that he needed just a bit more bulk but was afraid to go for it. Running it past Bob was a way to get the subject out and Bob hadn't shot the idea down. Eric was thinking that he'd work out a little harder, run more times a week and try to eat more. It had been a hard pull getting from 150 two years ago to the buff 180 he was today. To get the pounds to stick he would have to eat quite a bit more.
Now he felt that he could do it.
Eric's schedule was busy with his job at the ice cream shop, his girlfriend Rachel and football - not to mention school work but Eric had developed discipline and focus along the way. He would find a way.
