An object

Staggering backwards a few steps from the force it took to open the box, you are now able to look inside at its contents. A thick gold chain necklace was secured inside, a pale blue glow surrounded its edge and filled the space between the links. You stare at the chain which looked way too big for the box it was in, feeling a strange power emanating from it. Another quick look confirmed that you were still alone, "I'd better get this to the lost and found or something...", you decide and were just about to close the case again when without thinking, you stroke the side of the chain with one of your finger knuckles. It was ice cold to the touch, but on the instant that you did, the blue glow disappeared from the chain. Pulling your hand back, you jump at the realization of this subtle difference. You pluck up the courage to reach out another finger to touch its surface. Reaching out, you let out a small shout as you see that the glow that was on the chain was now on your knuckle in the place where you touched it. Astounded, you watch the circular glowing region as it moves up your finger, spreading out across the back of your hand and then up your arm, illuminating your white shirt from within as it went. Once it reached your shoulder, you could no longer see it but it it didn't go down so you could only assume it was going up your neck. Dashing towards the first reflective surface you can find, which happens to be a window in the door of the food hall, you can make out your worried face, the glowing dot moving its way steadily upwards. You watch it reach the centre of your forehead where it paused. You look back down to the box in your hand, the chain had disappeared "Oh yeah, that'd be about right wouldn't it?", you think to yourself, returning your attention to the glowing dot on your forehead. It had started pulsating, sending waves of light across your body. The frequency of the waves increaced until you couldn't tell if it was still pulsating or if your whole body was now just glowing constantly.

You bring your hands to your face, examining them in the window, noticing that the box had followed the chain and disappeared, but this was the least of your worries, "I'm frickin' blue!", you exclaim down the empty hallway. Looking down the corridor into the school, half hoping nobody would see you and half hoping somebody would come and help, you become aware that your shadow cast against the wall had gone. Turning back to the window, you pull your hands back up to your face, puzzled and even more frightened now that the glow had left your body and everything seemed normal. A glint caught your eye and you examine yourself in the reflective window. Pulling your collar down out of the way, you see that the gold chain had somehow found itself around your neck. It didn't feel cold like it did before, in fact it didn't even feel like it was there. You move your hand as if to touch it, when the burning cold like before ignited again on your finger and you saw only black
