Pepper continued. "Many experts of the occult have spent a great deal of time determining what is fantasy and what is reality regarding the legend of Bare Jenny. Unfortunately, the only way to obtain true knowledge of the occult, is to put theory into practice, and that is what we're going to do here tonight. 2 years ago, we proved through Alison that Bare Jenny's spirit could be invoked through a simple chanting ritual, with all of her vengeance focused on the girl at the center of the circle. Alison herself could not be here tonight for that very reason. She knows the power of Bare Jenny, and she never wants to touch it again. Now, we will put another part of the legend to the test. Some versions of the story claim that if any young girl dares to speak the rhyme before the mirror totally naked, then Jenny will wreak an even more terrible vengeance. Some say that the curse will extend to all of her friends and family, her children and her children's children. Some say that bare Jenny will step right out of the mirror and strangle her on the spot. Still others say that whoever dares to speak the rhyme in the buff, will never wear clothes again."
When Pepper finished her last sentence, Crystal began to hear a low rumble from outside the room. It was most assuredly the sound of thunderous storm clouds gathering overhead, Crystal told herself, but it sounded like something else. It sounded to her like something of immense power pressing up against a fragile door, the once strong materials straining against the pressure, and bending inward, ready to burst. On the verge of tears, Crystal could finally take no more. "Come on Pepper.... this... this story can't be true! I know your trying to scare me, but..."
"Now now, Crystal." Pepper replied, pulling the candle down away from her face. "We're here to experiment. That's the beauty of the science of the occult. All we have to do is try. If you’re right, nothing will happen. If the legend is true however... well, you'll have made a great sacrifice in the name of human knowledge!" Crystal was starting to breathe heavily now, looking around the room for some kind of sympathy. "Oh, come on you guys... don't make me do this! It's just stupid! Let's go back downstairs and do something else!"
It was Liz who spoke up this time. "It's too late to back out now Crissy. You're sooooo close to being one of the gang. If you walk away now, the whole night will be for nothing. You'll have to call your mom, and she'll come by and pick you up. Then, she'll drive you back to your boring, nowhere life and you can go back to being the boring nowhere person at our school with no friends. It's your choice, but if you really think this whole thing is 'stupid...'"
Crystal bowed her head in shame and defeat. "Okay. Okay, I'll do it." Pepper smiled and stepped away from the mirror to take her place in the circle. As she passed Crystal, she put a hand on her shoulder and gave her a firm squeeze. "It seems rough now..." Pepper thought "...but its all fun and games. We'll all laugh about this, years later." As Pepper drifted by, Crystal could have sworn she heard a whispered word of sympathy. It didn't sound like Pepper though. She wondered where it could have come from. Her mind was playing tricks on her, she thought.
As the circle was complete, the girls began the chant. "Jenny Jenny, you're a witch! Jenny Jenny, without a stitch! Jenny Jenny, face so red! Jenny Jenny now you’re dead! Jenny Jenny, on the fire! Jenny Jenny, we're all liars, Jenny Jenny, fair the well, Jenny Jenny, down in hell!"
As the final word slipped from Crystal's quivering lips, the low rumble in her ears split to a deafening crack as a flash of light poured into the room, and the steady chanting transformed into a chorus of girlish screams. As the other girls staggered and shrieked, Crystal's wide eyes remained glued to the mirror, and, for a split second, she saw a different pair of eyes looking back at her instead. The image of a young girl, naked, with messy brown hair and pale, worn features filled the looking glass, staring at her with sad, angry eyes. In a moment of pure, unthinking terror, Crystal found herself screaming louder than all of the others and fleeing the room. She bumped into someone on the way out, but was too distracted to notice who it was.
It didn't take long for the other girls to recover, and soon the lights were back on, and conversation ensued. "What the fuck was that!? cried Carmen in disbelief. "It was just lightning, obviously!" Pepper replied with hasty reason. "Where's Crystal?" Ha ha! She bolted!" laughed Veronica, lounging a the foot of Liz's bed. Before anyone could say anything else, Alison came stumbling through the open door, buck naked as usual. Her hair was dyed dark black, and her naked flesh was covered in almost movie quality zombie makeup. "What did you guys do to her? She hit me like a runaway train!" the naked zombie bimbo announced.
"Well, I guess she's initiated!" Liz chuckled. "Let's go downstairs and give her all of the good news." And so, the girls followed Liz downstairs in search of their friend.
When they get downstairs they find...
