Misato gains more weight out of spite.

Misato seethed at the comments about her weight, inwardly of course, outwardly showing the popular track star who was well liked by pretty much everyone except, ironically, the anime nerds.
I'll show them, she thought to herself. She was going to show all her detractors that no matter what the weight, Misato could still be attractive.
The rest of the day went normally, except for Misato eating a lot more than normal during lunch, and was at her locker, about to lock it up for the day, when she felt a tap on her shoulder.
Spinning around, Misato saw Becky Loder, the largest girl in school and one of the nerdiest as well. Becky loved Star Trek and had only talked to Misato a few times.
"I know your secret," Becky said.
"What are you talking about?"
"Don't play dumb with me, AnimeAto," Becky said quietly.
That caused Misato to squirm a bit and she sighed heavily.
