When James woke up on Tuesday morning, he was feeling even stronger than the previous days. It seemed as if he was constantly growing and becoming stronger every day. He even had to ask his mother if she had any bigger clothes for him to wear, for he couldn’t wear his own clothes anymore.
James’ arms had become too big for his shirts and his legs were too wide for his slacks and shorts. His torso was wider, and he had gained more muscle all over his body.
During PE class, a couple of high school kids wandered on the soccer field while the kids were playing. James was standing in the goal when Chad suddenly appeared out of nowhere. He kicked a ball towards the other older kids, who kicked it right back to him as he ran towards the goal which James was guarding. He saw that James was standing in the goal, and Chad kicked the ball right at him, as hard as possible.
The ball hit him in the chest, but James didn’t even flinch. Then the other high school boys came, and they all started kicking soccer balls at him, as they were trying to inflict pain. James just stood there, using his thick arms to deflect the balls or he used his body to block the shots. The boys had a dozen soccer balls at their disposal, and they ended up kicking one ball after another at him. Somehow, James was never hurt, and he blocked or deflected every single ball, much to the surprise of the older boys and to the amazement and delight of his teammates.
Once the older boys realized that they couldn’t hurt James, they gave up on their assault of the boy. But Chad wasn’t happy. He vowed to get back at James sooner or later and was preparing to deal with this kid in person. No sixth grader was going to humiliate him in front of all the kids!
Then on Wednesday morning, when James walked up to the building, he was greeted by a few girls who wanted to hand out invitations to a dance party. As James took one of the cards and stood there, reading the card, he suddenly felt a hard tug on his shoulder. When he turned around, he saw Chad standing before him.
“Well, well… If it isn’t Cinderella! What, you think you’re going to the party?” Chad sneered, as he grabbed the card out of James’ hands and ripped it apart. “Not anymore!”
“You moron! That wasn’t very nice!” James shouted at the bigger boy, who pushed James against the brick wall.
“Now, I’m gonna beat you up!” Chad growled.
“LEAVE ME ALONE!” James shouted back, as he reached over with his thick, muscular arms and pressed his hands up against Chad’s chest, giving him a mighty shove. In fact, James shoved Chad so hard, that he sent the boy airborne, causing the boy to fly a few feet into the air, until he came crashing down on the lawn in front of the building! Chad was in a daze for a few moments while all the other kids looked on in silence and in complete astonishment. Where did James get the strength to send an older and bigger kid like Chad flying several feet into the air like that? Nobody had ever fought back against Chad, who was known to be a bully.
James just looked on and took a deep breath. Then, he quickly turned around and entered the building. It was so quiet that you could hear a pin drop. All the other students were wondering what they had witnessed before their very eyes, as Chad slowly regained consciousness and slowly stood up before he stumbled his way over to the high school. He was clearly in shock and in serious pain. He stood up and limped his way out of the schoolyard as all the kids looked on.
Meanwhile, none of the other kids dared to even ask James anything, until recess that day. One boy, who was close to James, sat next to him during lunch.
“What you did this morning took a lot of guts, James! I mean, how did you do that? I sent Chad flying all the way into the bushes!” Anthony, one of James’ classmates, said to him as he sat across from him.
“I just shoved him out of my way, like this!” James showed, as he raised up both hands and demonstrated, extended his arms before Anthony.
“Oh! Wait! What are those strange markings on your hands?” Anthony asked him. “You got some weird symbol on both of your palms! What is that?”
James looked at his hands. He had completely forgotten about those markings, which were etched into his hands.
“Dude… Those are just some markings, okay? They don’t mean anything!” James sighed.
“They’re just weird… Are you an alien or something?” Anthony wondered out loud. “Like an alien being with superpowers?”
“NO!” James shouted as he banged his fist on the wooden table, causing the entire table to crack in half!
CRACK!
“Ack! Dude! You broke the table!” Anthony screamed, as he leaped onto his feet while the table broke apart, causing all their food to fall onto the floor. James did the same and both boys were looking at the broken table. One of the custodians came over and started to clean up the food which had spilled on the floor, and the boys had to stand in line again to get a second serving of food. But James vowed to be more careful this time, and he decided to try his hardest not to break anything anymore.
In the meantime, everybody started talking about James and the way he shoved Chad and smashed the table during recess. Was he an alien being with super strength? Nobody dared to ask him anything, but everybody else was talking behind his back. Was it a rumor, or was it the truth?
