When Sam and jake arrived at their house, Jake could already hear his mother talking on the phone from a distance.
"I bet we need to get ready for Aunt Kathy's birthday party next week!" Jake mumbled.
"Who told you that?" Sam said, as he got out of the car.
"I heard mom talking about it over the phone!" Jake replied as he walked into the house.
"Come on!" Sam groaned. "Nobody can hear that far! You're weird, Jake!"
Just as the boys walked in the house, their mother got off the phone and turned to face them as they walked in the door via the kitchen.
"Sam! Jake! Can you boys start blowing some of these balloons for me? They're for Aunt Kathy's 50th birthday next Sunday!" their mother asked them as she gave them each a small stack of balloons.
"Awww mom!" Sam groaned, as he took them and walked towards his room.
"See? I told you!" Jake whispered.
"Dude! How could you have heard mom from the car outside? You're WEIRD! Go to your room!" Sam sneered.
"Whatever..." Jake laughed as he just stumbled into his own bedroom and closed the door behind him.
Jake studied the colorful balloons and took the red one, and placed it in his mouth. He blew it up all the way, which seemed very easy for him to do. He tied the knot and was contemplating leaving it in a box in the corner, when the balloon slipped out of his fingers and started to float towards the high celing.
Jake had a large bedroom with a tall, 25-foot ceiling. the room was large, 20 feet by 20 feet, so there was a LOT of room in the big bedroom.
"Oh no! The balloon! It's going out of reach!" Jake gasped as the balloon was ascending farther out of his reach.
Jake decided to leap for it, so he could reach the bottom spout of the balloon so he could pull it down in time, before it traveled any further towards the ceiling!
"Whaaaahhh!!!" Jake gasped, as he leaped into the air and started hovering off the ground! Something WEIRD was going on! He was flying towards the balloon... and PASSING it and he soared towards the ceiling!
"WHOA! Turn!!!" Jake gasped, as he turned the other way, so he didn't crash into the ceiling. Instead, he starting FLYING along the walls of his room, in a wide circle, about twenty feet above the ground!!!!
"No way... NO WAY! I'm FLYING!" Jake cheered, as he had his arms extended in front of his head while his face was pointing towards the ground. His feet were neatly together, as his short body was gliding through the air, about fifteen to twenty feet above his bedroom!!!
"Okay, get the balloon..." he said, as he glided to the lost balloon and grabbed hold of it.
"Now... Come down... Slowly..." he said to himself as he willed his feet to touch his carpeted floor.
Very slowly, Jake pointed his feet to the ground as he descended to his bedroom floor. Finally, his soccer shoes touched the floor and he made his landing, completing his first solo flight!
"I... I gotta try this again!" he said to himself, full of excitement!
