Chapter #4

Stark

After hours of climbing up the treacherous mountainside it was to be expected that, even though our team of heroines was nothing if not persistent, Midnight, Ali, and poor Fontina were beyond exhausted; barely cognitive. In fact, to keep their minds busy, Midnight and Ali spent the latter half of their trek upwards coming up with a new word just to express how tired they were. So far after three hours of climbing, bickering, and complaining, the best they had come up with was "tirexhaustified"; but that could have been the sleep deprivation getting to them.

But in all actuality, they had long mentally abandoned their bodies and simply passed through with the motions that were handed to them, relying on instinct entirely. It had gotten them far enough, until one of them bothered to question just why it was they were climbing anymore. Then a long period of depression ensued as well as homicidal thoughts towards the wellbeing of their self-proclaimed leader- climbing this stupid rock being her idea in the first place.

Truth be told, Midnight hadn't exactly bargained for just how hot things were going to get or just how that would affect their team. Sure, she'd been through victory road with Ali and the Fontster before (it got kinda steamy in there) but at least there was a nice underground lake. Here was just elevation and multiple climaxes of heat. Had she known that she would be leading her team to a death-pit of... death... then she probably wouldn't have even bothered climbing this stupid volcano. Probably.

Maybe...

Possibly.

Point being, it was hot and nobody was having any fun anymore. Not that there was much fun to have been having at the start, but they were having a lot less fun now that they were all dehydrated and sore.

"Midnight..." Ali wheezed as she coughed up some flem mixed with the heavy soot in the air, "I want you to know... that I hate you."

"What?!" Midnight barked from too far ahead, having headed up as a sort of scout to make sure the footing was okay for the vertically challenged Ali and the generously deep dimensions of Fontina. Couldn't have the fiesty little Quilava moemon unable to reach or the dangerously busty Vaporeon bouncing off the mountain, could she?

"I said that I hate you!!" Ali yelled louder over the high winds, "I wish I'd never met you, because then we wouldn't be trapped on this stupid mountain- we're gonna die up here if we don't find a way down!!"

"Allison, you don't mean that!" Fontina yelled from underneath the smaller girl, clinging desperately to a ledge so as not to be blown away, "If something happens up here then--

"No I mean it, Fonty!!" Ali barked back, "She needs to hear it, how I finally feel!!"

A good couple of yards above Ali in altitude, the exchange between her two team mates went entirely ignored by her. The high winds and even higher temperatures had made things unbearable enough. In the distance, she could faintly hear the sounds of the Earth churning magma from the few active parts of the Volcano. She squinted her dark eyes in pain, her own sweat dripping from the tip of her dark chocolate brow and rolling right into her eyes. Oh what she'd give to be on a beach right now, surrounded by chocolate and money...

But dreaming wasn't going to get any closer to the top of this mountain. She persevered. If she was weak then she would fall, never getting any closer to her dreams of wealth and glory. She would never be able to rub it into her stupid family's face that she wasn't just another girl- someone special! And if she looked weak here, how would the other girls carry on without her...?

The Mightyena girl gave a mighty grunt as she heaved her weight upwards and grabbed at a piece of rock. Her nails, sharp and chiseled resembling claws, dug into the surface. She grinned to herself; as soon as she got her friends to a safe place with enough room to spread out, they would all take a break and call it a day. She could relax and take a nap, of course that would only come after--

KACHICK!!

"Midnight!!" Ali hollered at the top of her lungs as the Mightyena woman clutched blindly to the piece of rock in her hands, "I want you to know that I hate you!!"

And with that, the dark moemon slowly peeled from the side of the mountain like an old sticker. Her body leaned backwards at a fourty-five, then ninety degree angle before coming off of the surface completely, falling head first to the bottom of Stark Mountain.

"Midnight!!" Fontina shouted as she herself began to lean over, searching desperately for her companion, who was slowly falling out of sight beneath the heavy soot. "Ali, you've got to do something!!"

"O-Ohmigod..." Ali shook, feeling her fingers tremble beneath her own weight as she watched Midnight fall to her imminent death.

"Ali!!" Fontina shouted again, "We're in a volcano, shouldn't you be able to do something?!"

"I-I... I-I can't!" Ali whimpered beneath the sound of ruptured geysers, "Oh God... Oh God...the last thing I told her was... was..."

Fontina began her descent downwards, stepping down the many rocks she had climbed today in hopes of reaching her fallen friend. "W-We've got to get down there!" Fontina stammered, "Sh-She'll hit that alcove we passed pretty hard, but she might still make it! A-Ali, we've got to--

CLI-CHICK

Suddenly her footing was lost and Fontina slipped, saved only by her fearfully tight grasp on the mountainside. Her big blue eyes shrank down to mere dots in her fear, sweaty azure hair seeming to weigh a thousand pounds by itself. She flexed her pitiful muscles, only further atrophied by her relaxing week at the Resort Area. She had lost her footing, and had no way of pulling herself back up!

"A-Ali!!" she squeaked, "Y-You've got to help!"

The Quilava moemon's head slunk downwards, only to see one of her very best friends hanging on to an inch of her life by, literally, an inch of skin. Her will shriveled and died as she lifted out a feeble hand, nursing onto the mountainside like a small child.

"I-I've got you!"

However, Fontina's weight was too much for the younger girl- as soon as she grabbed hold of Ali's sweaty hand, the voluptuous girl sent herself as well as her friend tumbling down towards Midnight. They hollered and screamed, fearful of what fate await them in the chilly grip of death...

At least it was cold.

You have the following choice:

1. Ali wakens in a tribal infermary, her teams' wounds being dressed...
