Sudden changes

You have no idea what time it is when you hear your phone ring. At first you ignore it, but the phone just keeps ringing.

Your hand reaches out and fumbles around for the phone until its in your grasp. You can barely keep your eyes open, seeing slight specks of sunlight poke through your window blinds. "*yawn* Hello...?"

"Daniel! You have to get over here!" It's your girlfriend, Rachael. And she sounds quite anxious.

"Raech? What's going on?" You force yourself to get up, knowing she will not forgive you if you don't go. "You okay?"

"Just get over here, quick!" The line disconnects.

Uh-oh... you think to yourself. What on Earth could have happened to make her sound so nervous?

You quickly get dressed and drive down the road until you reach her house. You run to the door, which is left unlocked. A Post-It is on the handle, reading "Lock the door after you come in!" Which you do.

"Rachael?" you call out. "It's me, Daniel!"

"Daniel? I'm in my room!" Rachael replies. You hurry down the hallway to the first room on the right, where you find Rachael sitting on bed bed in only a bra and underwear. And for good reason: you quickly notice the shiny gray tail that's sprouted just above her backside. Then you spot the wolf ears on top of her head.

"I don't know what happened," she starts, her voice still shaky. "I just woke up during the middle of the night, and found that I... well, you can see what I found."

You know Rachael can be a prankster at times, but she wouldn't do something just to waste your time. You decide there has to be more to this, so you take a seat next to her on the bed.

"Can I...?" But she knows what you're going to ask, and nods her consent. You slowly trace a finger down her spine, her skin feeling cold to the touch. You eventually come to the base of her new tail, which her spine simply continues into. Somehow, her tail bone decided to actually be of use. You can feel the bone at the center of her tail which otherwise feels soft to the touch. Why it was the tail of a wolf, you had no idea. Explaining the ears was a lot more tricky.

"What am I going to do? I can't go out like this!" she exclaims. Her wolf ears drooped, showing her sadness even more.

You take her hand, where you see her nails have become sharp claws. However, you ignore mentioning them for now. "Rachael, I don't have any way to explain this any more than you do right now, but I'll help you through it, alright?"

She looks up to your face and smiles. She reaches to wipe a tear, but you quickly see her claws. "Here, let me get that. I don't want you to scratch your eye out by accident...unless you want to be a pirate wolf-girl?"

Rachael laughs, knowing you're trying to make her feel better. "So, what do we do? I can't possibly go to class like this!"
