"Danielle" Kat yelled at Dan as she fled her sister's presence.
Danielle needed to know.
Gradually she felt a sickness in your her stomach as she examined the house, her house, her Mary Janes clicking unfamiliarly on the familiar hardword floors. So, many details were changed, from clothes in the laundry hamper, to the little blue bike in the garage, to the neatness of the living room.
At last her eyes went to the pictures on the mantle piece, to what should be a familiar wall of family photos. Instead, Danielle stared back at Dan, in her long black hair and a plaid dress in what looks to be her latest school picture next to her in jeans and a tee shirt playing by a mountain stream during last summer's trip to Oregon, smiling at your now much older sister. "Don't call me that." Danielle couldn't help but taste the salt in her tears or the choking in her voice.
"Danielle," her sister crooned, trying to be comforting.
"I hate you," With that Danielle turned and ran up the stairs. She ran to her room, rather the what had been his room. Slamming the door she lay on the bed, now covered with lacy covers, now smaller,yet somehow just the right size for her.
"Dan," Kat spoke gently through the door. For a long while there was no response, other Danielle's steady breathing.
"Why?" Danielle responded in a choked voice.
"Because I need an ally, a witch ally."
"I hate you."
"You hate me now." Kat crooned, "But you'll forget in a few years, when you're boy crazy and your older sister tells you just how to get his attention. You'll forget when I take you shopping and get you 'that to die for skirt' or when you wonder if you're fat or--"
"No, I won't," Danielle screamed back, the earlier pashion back in her voice.
"Eight years is a long time to hold a grudge." Kat said sweetly. "Oh and Mom's home, and the party is almost ready. Best, wipe your tears and come down." With that, she walked away.
