A... Shocking Realization.

Dan draws the scissors closer to that infernal, buckle-less, leather band which hugs his neck, without even comprehending the risks. A pain, sudden, unwelcome. Did he slip, and cut himself with the scissors? No, he couldn't have. It hurt all over his body. Cringe-worthy pain. Numbing, his whole body losing all sensitivity.

He's on the floor, his tremulous form unable to function. He tries to call out, but his throat defies him. Instead, he makes a whimpering howl, but not loud enough to be heard. He wishes that the pain would stop. A crimson haze smothers his vision. He sees the veins in his eyeballs. Then, a sudden halt.

Dan goes limp. His limbs are non-responsive. He lies, barely conscious, hyperventilating. He loses the ability to determine how much time has passed. The ordeal could have lasted a few seconds, or a few hours.

He groggily stands, to see...
