Chapter #6

Hip to Be Round

Though Runo wasn't hoping to gain weight at first, she noticed that although she was thin, she felt that it didn't suit her. It didn't seem right to her that she was thin. She felt like she needed to get bigger. Runo also believed she was missing out on all kinds of food by keeping thin. If she was fat, she wouldn't have to worry and could eat whatever she wanted.

The next morning:

Runo saw that her mom had made a big breakfast that her dad had started eating into. She wondered what her parents would think when she told them she wanted to be fat.

"Mom, Dad," she said, "Do you think I'm too... thin?" Mr. and Mrs. Misaki didn't respond right away. They still wondered why their daughter was worried about being thin. "I think I need to fatten up." Mrs. Misaki then said, "Well, Runo, why do you think you should be bigger?"

"I just want to, I guess." Mr. Misaki still looked a bit strange, but spoke up. "It just doesn't seem like you to think about being too thin, honey." "I know, Dad," Runo said. "I was thinking, though, and I was hoping I could fatten up with these big meals." Runo then dug in and ate a couple of pancakes.

Mrs. Misaki looked at her husband, who shrugged. She turned to Runo and said, "All right Runo, we'll help you, but you've got to help us make the meals. We can't do everything, you know." Runo looked up and said, "No problem! I'll do whatever you need me to do!"
