Chapter #4

She blows her chair away

Ruby's chair rocketed behind her and into some other chairs as she fell and landed right on her butt. The fart was especially loud and echoed through the library. Ruby got up quickly after, rubbing her butt with her right hand as she looked around to see if anyone there saw or heard what happened - only two people there seemed to notice, with one of them being the librarian of course, putting her finger to her mouth and shushing Ruby profusely.

The other person was a girl, about Ruby's age, and she was snickering to herself. Ruby's face turned red. Oh great, I've made my first impression already, she thought, when the girl walked up to Ruby and simply said to her, "That was awesome, dude!" Ruby was a little confused. "Huh? W-What do you mean?" she responded to the girl. "Your fart! I had no idea that they could be that strong - you sent that chair flying!" Ruby started to blush even more as she said, "H-Hey, I didn't fart! I was just sitting on the chair weird and I slipped off..."

The other girl gave Ruby a look that told her that she wasn't buying Ruby's lie. Afterwards, she said, "You don't have to be embarrassed - I don't think that old librarian heard your little butt trumpet. Besides, I think it's cool!"

"Cool?" Ruby said, surprised at the girl's response. "Yeah, man! That gas blast was intense - how did you learn you could do that?" she said curiously. Ruby was surprised - this wasn't the first time someone actually complimented her on her flatulence, but the people who did were usually boys, never girls. Ruby always got the impression that she was the unpopular girl at school, and not just because she would fart as much as she did - her looks made the other girls jealous of her more often than not, and she was always a bookworm, which didn't help either. Because of that, Ruby never had that many female friends, and the ones she did have she often didn't keep for very long, for one reason or another.

As Ruby thought about the girl's response, she leaned in closer to Ruby and said "Hello? You even hear what I said?" Ruby snapped out of her thoughts and simply stated, "Oh! Uh, yeah, I... I didn't learn that, I was just sorta born that way..." The other girl replied, "Hey, no way - that's pretty neat! So, it's like your superpower? Can you do that on command?" Ruby, somewhat flustered, said, "N-No, it's not a superpower! I... I can't control it that well, either."

"Aw, that kinda sucks." The other girl replied. Ruby asked, "Why do you care?"
"Hey, take it easy - I'm not tryna make fun of ya or anything, girl. I just think it's cool!" The other girl said with an earnest smile. She then added, "Sorry, bit of a touchy subject for ya?" Ruby responded by saying, "Yeah, kinda... I guess you can say that it's just kind of embarrassing. I try not to do it out in public, but I can't help it."

There was a moment of silence before the other girl spoke up. "Hey, what's your name?"
