Despite her initial excitement, Ruby paused and thought about the offer for a moment. There was part of her that was surprised that Corey would extend such an invitation to her without really knowing who she was, but she also really appreciated it at the same time. She also thought that Corey was rather friendly, and part of her did want to get to know him better - it also helped that Corey did look kinda cute.
Her biggest concern was whether or not she'd fart right in front of him, and whether or not that would gross him out or worse - Ruby's farts in particular are rather strong, especially when she's nervous, and meeting a cute boy only to pass gas shortly after in front of him and his friends sounded like a recipe for disaster. She didn't want to be known as "that girl with the monster farts" at another school.
Though, perhaps against her better judgement, she decided to face Corey and tell him, "Y-Yeah, sure! That sounds like a lot of fun. I'd love to get to know you and your friends better too!" Corey smiled and said, "Great, good to have you! We usually meet up back here around 3:15 PM, about 15 minutes after school's over. See you then?"
"Yeah, I'll be there! 3:15 PM, on the dot." Ruby replied with a thumbs up and a wink. Corey chuckled a little and said, "Well, I appreciate the energy. The rest of the group usually show up a little later, so don't surprised if it's just me again." The first bell rang shortly after, and Corey said, "Oh geez, we're gonna be late - hey, I'll catch ya after school. What's your name?" Ruby responded, "It's Ruby."
"Cool - nice to meet ya Ruby! I'm Corey - I'll meeting you back here after school. Deal?" He said as he turned around and headed for the door. Ruby raised her voice to make up for the distance between them and said, "Deal! See you later, Corey!"
Corey left the library, and Ruby couldn't help but smile. Wow, she thought, he seems really nice... alright, don't screw this up, Rubes - if you have to, just get it all out of your system before 3:15. After she made this mental note to herself, Ruby made her way to class.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------
Ruby's first class was, fittingly enough, a Literature class, and it was being taught by Mr. Irving. Mr. Irving was a middle-aged man in his 40s, but you wouldn't be able to tell just by looking at him - Mr. Irving was tall, had a head full of platinum blonde hair, and a goatee, with his fair combed to his left side. He wore a black vest with a red shirt underneath that had a picture of the Marvel Comics logo on it, and he wore dark blue denim jeans with white tennis shoes. When she walked into class, Mr. Irving turned his head to her and said, "You're a little late there, aren't ya little missy?" Ruby was a little embarrassed to be singled out in front of her classroom, as she said, "I'm sorry, I was talking with someone." Mr. Irving couldn't help but chuckle and simply said, "No worries - it's the first day, I'll cut ya some slack. I let all the students pick their seats, so you're stuck with the one in the middle or there. You OK with that, or would you like to trade with someone?" Ruby replied, "No, that's OK - I'll take that one. Thank you, Mr...?"
"Irving - call me Mr. Irving, or Mr. I for short if you like." With that said, Ruby took her seat, and once she did, Mr. Irving addressed the whole class by saying, "Alright, I think we're all accounted for here. Welcome to your first day of Literature class, everybody - I know, not everybody is into reading, but I'll try to make it as not-boring as possible." The students all laughed at that. "So, before we get started, let's take attendance." At that moment, Ruby's face changed instantly from the happy face it was earlier when she met Corey to one that had worry written all over it. Oh no, my name! she thought to herself. Everybody's gonna learn that my name is Fartmeister... ohhh, this isn't good. As the thought occurred to her, her face started to get red, and her stomach started to softly gurgle and growl as gas started to bubble up in her system. Ruby was nervous about what was gonna happen when all the kids knew that her last name was Fartmeister, and couldn't but feel her stomach bubble up the more she thought about it. As Mr. Irving said the names, Ruby thought to herself, OK, maybe this isn't a big deal...not like it's the first time people laughed at my dumb last name...they were gonna find out sooner or later anyway, right? That's when Mr. Irving said "Ruby--"
