Lucas popped the blue pill into his mouth. It was very sweet, and definitely one of the better candies he'd eaten. He snatched the unattended controller on the coffee table before Mark came back.
"I get to be player one. Obviously, the better player should be the first player, right?" Lucas touted, feeling an odd boost in confidence.
"Are you kidding? No way, I'm the host. Plus, I'm way better at driving than you are--you broke your car last week. So clearly, I'm the better racer." Mark snatched the controller back from him and traded him the infamous guest controller.
Lucas felt unnaturally energized. "Yeah? How about we arm wrestle for it?" He plunked his elbow on the coffee table, ready to go. He knew he was weaker than Lucas, but he didn't really care; he just wanted to get all of this energy out.
Mark laughed. "What? I always win at physical feats. That's the price you pay for not working out." He readied his arm on the other side. "But if you want to, then sure, let's go. Ready? Set? Go!"
In an instant, the back of Mark's hand hit the table. Eyebrows on both sides flew to the ceiling. "Dude, have you been working out? Have you been holding out on me?"
Lucas recovered and grimaced. "Come on, I know you were just going easy on me. Let's actually have a fair game."
Before Mark could retort, Lucas cried out and doubled over. He clutched his stomach and his pants were slowly becoming tighter. Mark stood up surprised. "Whoa, are you okay, Lucas? Shoot, I'll get my dad, stay here!"
In a few moments, Lucas's tail bone started extending. His pants were at their limit, so he unzipped it as far as he could, unleashing the growing appendage. It didn't hurt as badly, so he quickly sat up and hunched over to the couch. He looked behind him, and his jaw dropped along with his pants, revealing a short, scaly tail that had just come out of his body. It looked so much different than the rest of his skin, almost like some mad scientist had simply attached a lizard tail to his coccyx. There was no blending in between.
He poked the tail with his hand, and he could feel the nerves respond to his touch. It was extremely disorienting, but he overcame his shock soon enough. In a few minutes, Mark came running back, flustered and with his sister, Julia.
