Ashoka sighed as she dutifully continued with the punishment imposed on her by her master, Anakin Skywalker. Once again she ran her mouth a bit too much in a council meeting, and this was one of the times that the jedi master didn't fully share her convictions, so it was time for some "alternative approach" as her master put it.
The alternative approach was basically grunt work, unfit for a jedi apprentice but according to Anakin something that would teach him to start learning to keep quiet. And what kind of grunt work? Basically sorting out trash and materials to keep, recycle or discard, things that could have some value and weren't automatically disposed of but nobody bothered to check until a room in the ship. Any hopes Ashoka had to at least find something worth her while were quickly deflated, most of it was indeed just trash and the only distraction was provided by the sympathetic looks and greetings from her clone crewmates that were surprised to see her relegated to such a role instead of being at her master's side like always.
The worst part was that she knew perfectly this wasn't going to teach her any lesson, and she was almost sure Anakin, her master, was also aware of this, so the punishment didn't feel like a lesson at all, just like an excuse to get rid of her for hours. She just hoped her instinct was right and this was all just a bad joke instead of her master being actually angry at her.
The door opened and a series of inquisitive beeps provided some more welcome distraction.
"I know, I know. I just can't help it" Ashoka adressed R2-D2
The droid answered with a series of dubitative beeps
"I think I'm halfway through, why did they decide to keep all of this if it was mostly trash?"
More beeps followed, Ashoka recognized the typical dull droid explanation tone
"Right, what was the most valuable thing we have found so far doing this?"
The droid answered with a couple of uncharacteristic short beeps
"Ha! told you.. hey, don't escape!" Ashoka chuckled at R2-D2 amusing way to end the conversation and went back to her "punishment", until she found something strange.
"Huh.. this at leasts looks worth preserving" Ashoka told herself looking at a small medallion that didn't look that valuable but looked interesting enough not to throw away, particularly because it seemed to shine without needing a lot of light and without having any internal energy source. Ashoka wondered if she should keep it as a memory of this bad experience or just gift it to someone in the ship, after all Jedi were not supposed to get attached to things, as cool as this one looked. She saved it for later and continued with the grunt work.
