Chapter #4

You learn of a war.

Upon entering your brother's 'secret' laboratory, you find a strange man casually walking around, occasionally playing with the nearly countless pieces of equipment. You had never seen him before but you knew that he did not belong, especially not inside his laboratory. You had trespassed on numerous occasions but only to play pranks, you never fiddled around with his equipment as he never played with your potions. It was an unspoken rule of respect.

"How did he get inside here!?!" you thought, frightened and angry at the same time. "How did he even know Jan's laboratory was here to begin with!?!"

Then the man spoke to himself and you paused to listen. "This boy has powers that would make an adult scientist envious." he said, with an impressed look. "He would make a fine soldier in the war."

"War?" you thought, shivering. "What war!?!"

Then the man continued to talk and you were chilled to the bone by his words. "Those witches will soon learn that we 'mad' scientists are the superior and we WILL rule over everything!"

"He 'is' a mad scientist." you thought. "He's crazy if he thinks Jan will ever agree to joining up with him!"

Just then, Jan's voice rang out in the room. "Identify yourself!" he demanded.

The man froze as a number of laser cannons emerged from the floor and ceiling, aiming themselves at him. "I am Zed." replied the man, with a slight bow. "Zed Brawl. I am a 'mad' scientist, much like yourself, it is a pleasure to..."

"Cut the pleasantries, Zed!" said Jan, clearly annoyed. "State your business!"

Zed smiled. "I am here, looking for recruits to help us in a war." he replied. "A war that is raging all around you, without your or anyone else's notice."

Jan lifted a single eyebrow. "A secret war... in my backyard?" he asked. he grew red with impatience. "Just how naive do believe me to be!?!"

"This war is real, Juan." insisted Zed. "It has been going on for centuries now. In the beginning, there were only witches."

Jan's eyes widened in surprise, which Zed noticed, but he continued. "We were their sons, their brothers, and their male neighbors, all perfectly happy and feeling safe." he then frowned. "That was until the witches decided we boys, who had no magical power, were best suited as toys for their private amusement!"

"Science has been around since the age of the Pharaohs." countered Jan, unconvinced.

"Science, yes." replied Zed. "But not 'mad' science." he then continued his story. "For several years, we witch boys lived in fear of our witch relatives, doing their bidding. We did so in fear of becoming a doll for their youngest daughter, or a six year old girl with the mind of a teenage boy, or worse."

Jan took a step closer, keeping a mental hold on the lab's defensive cannons. "How did this all explode into the war you speak of?" he asked with you still listening, close by.

"One brave boy decided that he had enough." said Zed. "As a little girl, he stole a magic book and began to study it. Only, he was not studying the book to learn magic, he was searching for ways to make it work through science."

Jan and you continued to listen to the man, Zed with a certain morbid curiosity. "I take it that this one boy succeeded in his mission?" you asked.

Zed nodded. "Yes, but it was not for another twenty years of torment before he managed to create the first chaotic science laboratory." he said, with a hint of pride. "From there, he sent countless of copies of his mad science book to every witch boy in the world, giving them not only the power to fight back but to take over!"

"Thus the war between witches and mad scientists began." said Jan, following Zed's story.

"Exactly." said Zed. "As I had said, this war had raged on for centuries. However, I sense that you have a power that may tip the odds in our favor and end this war with us mad scientists reigning supreme."

For a moment, Jan is silent and you were hoping that he was thinking of a way to get rid of the madman. Then, Jan finally spoke, he said...
