I froze. The door that led to my apartment was wide open. I always locked it and knew that this was a bad sign, for the area that I lived in had a infamous reputation for burglaries. My apartment, I saw, was gloomy when I snuck in and silent as a grave.
I groped around in the darkness and found I broom, hoping that it would defend me against any robber. As I moved into the living room, I jumped when the light switch suddenly turned on and someone spoke with a thick southern drawl.
"Well, well, about time someone showed up. I was beginning to think that'll ha'to stay here all night."
I turned. What I saw made me drop my broom, for I knew that it would be defenseless against a foe like this. She was taller than me by a few inches. She was obese, easily weighing over 300 pounds, but as sturdy as a brick wall. Her hair was blond, tied in a ponytail, her eyes a bright blue.
She was noisily chewing on a piece of bubblegum, watching me with a grin. Around her ample waist was a utility belt, and I saw that a holster contained a firearm.
She stepped forward. "You Will Turner?" she asked.
To be honest, I was intimidated by her size and afraid to answer. "Y-y-yes," I stuttered, taking a step back.
Her grin grew wide. "Ah, I finally found ya!" she exclaimed, grabbing me and pulling me into a crushing hug.
After she was done squeezing the life out of me, she set me down and introduced herself. "My name's Mika," she said, "I'm your bodyguard."
"My b-bodyguard?" I asked, astonished.
"Yup," Mika said with enthusiasm, before turning sad, "I was assigned to protect your uncle, but old stuff is gone now, but he told me before he went that I've got to go look after his little cousin, which would be you."
"How did you get in here?" I suddenly asked, remembering my open door.
"O, I picked the lock," she answered simply.
"You broke in!?" I exclaimed.
"Yeah," Mika said with pride, like breaking and entering was a good thing, "Have several useful skills to help ya."
I shook my head, changing the subject. "Why are you here?" I asked, "I didn't order for a bodyguard."
"Ya don't need to order for me," she said, "I'm around you 24/7. Anyway, I came to get ya out of this here dump and take you to the estate."
I nodded. Sooner or later I had to go to my house I inherited and move. "Just wait a few minutes," I said, "I need make a call first and pack a few th-"
Mika cut me off by grabbing my upper arm and saying, "I have to take ya now! The gals are all waiting for you back home, and boy, are they all worked up to see the new boss!"
The next thing I knew I was being dragged out of my apartment, being forced down the stairs and out of the building.
"Wait!" I cried, "My stuff!"
I tried to break free, but her grip was as strong as iron.
"We'll have it packed up and delivered for ya, don't you worry," she said while dragging me.
"And my car?" I asked.
"Be towed and added to the bunch of other cars ya already own" Mika said with a wink of her eye.
Outside a silver colored limousine awaited me, and Mika showed me into the back seat before climbing in herself.
"I got 'em," Mika said to a slender man in a neat suit, who I guessed was my chauffeur. "Get movin'. I don't like this place.
"Sure thing, miss," he said with a surprisingly deep baritone voice.
While the car drove off, Mika offered me some expensive wine to celebrate my succession, but I politely refused it. Instead, I looked out the window, watching as we drove further and further away, leaving the city and driving into the countryside.
From that moment on I knew that my old life was over and a new one gas began.
