"Laura is now madly in love with me, willing to do whatever I ask to prove it." he said, watching her expression as the effect hit. Then it was obvious that it had worked, as her face lit up and she brought her lunch over to my table. "Ummm, hi." she said, as she sat down across from me. "Listen, I know that I was the one who broke things off with you, and I feel really horrible about having made fun of you with the girls. Is there anything I can do to make it up to you? I couldn't live with myself if I truly hurt you!" She said this last part as she leaned across the lunch table and gave me a long, lingering kiss to the astonishment of her friends.
I think about it for a moment before telling her. "I was hurt when you left me, badly hurt. How do I know you won't hurt me again? I need you to do something to prove to me that you're committed to being mine, alone."
