Steven stood there grinning like an idiot as Elizabeth talked away. Her monologue had gone off topic somewhat as she moved on to talking about things going on her personal life. Steven just nodded sympathetically as his manager waffled on.
Then suddenly there was a loud pop and a small cloud of smoke. Steven was gone.
Elizabeth was instantly silenced as she stared at the rapidly disappearing cloud of vapour. "Steven...?" she asked in a very perplexed manner. She turned her head from side to side, looking around the office. She'd realised she had became so focused on talking that Steven might have wandered off without her noticing. She still couldn't see him. Wondering if he had perhaps fell over, she leaned forward over her desk to look at the spot on the floor where he'd been standing. "Steven?" She tried again in a vain hope he was still here somewhere.
After thinking about it for a few moments she picked up her desk phone and dialled customer service downstairs. Waggy promptly answered the phone. "Customer service. Tracey speaking, how can I help?"
"Waggy?" Elizabeth asked with some uncertainty in her voice.
"Hi Elizabeth, what's up?" she asked cheerily.
"Is Liz there?"
"Sure I'll just grab her."
Elizabeth could hear a gentle clunk as the handset hit the hard surface of the desk. There was a delay of about thirty seconds before Liz picked up the phone.
"Hi Elizabeth, is there a problem?" The supervisor asked.
"It's..., Steven."
"Oh God, what's he gone and done now?"
Elizabeth couldn't believe what she was about to say. "I think he has exploded."
